‎Free at Epic

In celebration of the reboot, Saints Row 3 Remastered is free on the Epic Games Store. Plus, you can get Automachef for free too.

Not a week without free games at Epic. To celebrate the announcement of the new Saints Row, the remastered version of part 3 entitled “The Third” is free. For puzzle and strategy fans, there’s also Automachef for free.

Whether the two new free games are interesting for you at all and what else you should know about the current promotion of the Epic Games Store, we will tell you as always in our weekly article.

Saints Row: The Third Remastered

It fits like a glove on a purple-beaten eye that Epic is giving away the third part of the series for the announcement of Saints Row (i.e. the reboot). After all, the new part draws heavily on the aesthetics of The Third, before things got “subtly” absurd with game 4 as well as Gat out of Hell.

Saints Row: All info on the big open-world reboot – and what we think of it

But what is Saints Row: The Third Remastered about anyway? It’s the graphically enhanced complete package that contains all 30 DLCs from the original game. These mainly provide new clothes, weapons and vehicles and improved character models and textures. But three expansions also deliver additional missions that were not included in the original title.

And yes, The Third is probably the last “real” Saints Row before it went into space with Part 4 and into – well – hell with Gat out of Hell. We strike out as the leader of the Saints in the new city of Steelport, where, as usual, three hostile gangs vie for supremacy. With a freely customisable character, we mix up the power struggle in order to triumph over Steelport as the sole ruler of the underworld in the end.

Above all, numerous inspirations from the GTA series are still noticeable: an open world is open to us as a playground, we engage in numerous shootouts and brawls and take on the most diverse missions in all corners of the city. And of course, Saints Row never really came close to the class of a GTA. The “crazy little brother” of the Rockstar series makes up for this with its humour and absurd missions.

Automachef

Be a chef without cooking? If you are pursuing this perhaps somewhat unusual dream and at the same time have a soft spot for small-scale resource management, then Automachef might be just the thing for you.

Here we design kitchens that function fully automatically – as the name might suggest – and challenge your puzzle skills. In the process, the human factor is completely dispensed with, if you at least disregard the player.

But how exactly does Automachef play? The concept is simple: we are given the task of designing a restaurant that is as efficient as possible and meets all the wishes of our customers. This entails designing and structuring quite complex production chains, while we have to consider all possible factors.

For example, if we produce too much too fast, our customers will love it, but we will waste resources to no end. In Automachef, you have to do a lot of trial and error to find the optimal production chain. That brings a lot of frustration, but it’s all the more satisfying when the spark finally ignites.

Where and for how long are the free games available?

Saints Row: The Third Remastered has been available for free since the reboot was announced during Opening Night Live at gamescom 2021. You can get Automachef for free since 26 August at 5pm German time. You can then get both games until 2 September at 16:59.

To get both free games, you only need to have an active Epic account. Then go to the Epic Game Launcher store page to quickly find the respective product pages. Just add both titles to your library and you’ll be able to download them whenever you like.
