Ubisoft is giving away Far Cry 3, the open-world shooter that many fans consider the best of the entire series. Here’s all the info.

You’ll have to be quick though: The offer is valid now and only until 11 September 2021 at 08:30. If you grab it by then, you get to keep Far Cry 3 permanently. You will need an account with Ubisoft to secure your copy of the game.
What is Far Cry 3 about?
In Far Cry 3, one of the most charismatic video game villains ever stands in your way. You actually wanted to go on a hip party holiday with your friends on the paradisiacal Caribbean island of Rook Island, but antagonist Vaas Montenegro and his gang of pirates would rather take you hostage. The villains have even taken over the whole island and are now following Vaas’ megalomaniac plans. Your character is called Jason Brody and can escape at the beginning.
From now on, you fight your way through the large open-world island, forge alliances with the inhabitants, hunt animals and play a relaxed round of poker. But these are all trivialities; the core of Far Cry 3 is, of course, the gunfights as you gradually recapture the island from the ghouls. Various weapons, grenades and rockets serve the action-lover, while the sneak mechanic also allows you to take the bases of Vaas’ pirates quite stealthily.
Overall, Far Cry 3 takes the series to its peak at the time, becoming a blueprint for parts 4 and 5 thanks in part to the success of selling over ten million copies. And the upcoming Far Cry 6 again leans heavily on the open-world formula that Ubisoft games are known for, albeit notoriously
Suitable for whom?
Without kidding, if you like first-person shooters but haven’t played Far Cry 3 yet, there’s a huge gap in your knowledge. The graphics from 2012 can no longer keep up with current games, but the gameplay loop has hardly lost any of its fun factor.
If you’re waiting for the release of Far Cry 6 on 7 October 2021, Far Cry 3 could pass the time or whet your appetite for the game. This is probably also Ubisoft’s intention behind the game gift.
