The rumours have come true: Alan Wake will get a remastered version this year. However, it will not be released on Steam.
Speculations and rumours have been around for a long time, now it’s official: Alan Wake is getting a new edition. Story writer and Max Payne actor Sam Lake announced the remaster version in a blog entry at developer studio Remedy.
The former Xbox 360 exclusive will receive graphical improvements in the remake, will be released for PC and all current consoles apart from the Nintendo Switch and will be financed by Epic Games. Alan Wake Remastered is scheduled for release as early as autumn 2021
Alan Wake Remastered: All info on the remastered edition
A full remake in the style of Resident Evil 2 or Mafia will probably not be Alan Wake. Instead, it’s a visual overhaul of the 2010 horror thriller with newly rendered 4K visuals and additional audio commentary by Sam Lake.
In terms of content, Alan Wake Remastered comprises the main game including the two DLC expansions The Signal and The Writer. The spin-off American Nightmare, with a much greater focus on action, is not part of the package.
Remedy itself is responsible for the development of the Remastered, while Epic Games steps in as publisher. This means: Alan Wake Remastered will appear exclusively in the Epic Games Store and not on Steam.
There are currently no pictures or a trailer. However, the release is not too far away: Alan Wake Remastered is scheduled for release this autumn for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
What’s next for Remedy?
For Remedy, Alan Wake Remastered is just one of many projects the Finnish developer is currently working on. On the one hand, the studio is working on a single-player campaign for the upcoming multiplayer shooter CrossFireX.
On the other hand, a sequel to Control and a multiplayer spin-off are in the works. Last but not least, another AAA project is also on the way with Epic Games, but there are no further details on that at the moment.
Fans of the former Max Payne developer should therefore get their money’s worth in the near future. At the moment, Remedy is busy with new developments on pretty much all fronts
