Counter-Strike developer Valve has recently released a new update that includes a chat filter for insults. A similar one can already be found in Valorant.

Despite the great competition from Valorant, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is still one of the most popular shooters in the world of eSports. Every day thousands of people gather on the different servers, compete against each other in competitions or deathmachine duels. In the course of this it is not uncommon for some gamers to insult their fellow players, both verbally and in writing.

To at least get the situation regarding the ingame-chat under control, developer Valve releases a new update. With this the chat gets a corresponding text filter. This can be switched on or off at your discretion and should help to filter out “nefarious” insults.

Official Patchnotes:

[MISC]
– Added a new game communication setting “Text Filtering” which is enabled by default and blocks profane words used in text chat.
– Fixed a trigger_bomb_reset regression.

What about other games?
Another possible way is Valorant, where statements are replaced by compliments, even if they are chosen rather randomly by the system.

As “dot esports” reports, corresponding measures are already available in other games, as the example Valorant shows, but some creators/studios go one step further. In Call of Duty, for example, players are banned directly if they make racist or severely offensive statements, among other things. In Rocket League, a system like the one that has now been implemented in CS:GO is currently under development.
