The new edition doesn’t do without the iconic cow level either. But one small change makes the cows fear for their lives more than ever.
Since 23 September 2021, brave adventurers can once again confront the hellspawn around the chief beasts Diablo, Baal and Mephisto. But there is another danger lurking in the vastness of the game world that connoisseurs of the original should know only too well: cows!
How to get to the cow level
While players of the original Diablo 2 still had to search alone or with friends for the entrance to the legendary Cow Level, the curious can now rely on the help of the Internet. We explain to you which steps you have to follow in order to look into the bloodthirsty faces of the beasts:
- First, you must have already killed Baal on your respective difficulty level.
- Make sure you are in possession of Wirret’s leg (his remains are in Tristram near the river).
- Return to the slayer’s lair.
- Combines the leg with a tome of the city portal in the Horadrim Cube.
- Enter the portal and fight for your life!

Even in the past, the cow level was an ideal opportunity for many players to get a comparatively large amount of XP quickly and easily. But there was one special feature that had to be observed: never kill the Cow King! Because then you could no longer enter the secret Easteregg level on the selected difficulty level.
A small change makes cows tremble: How good that the developers of the new edition have eliminated this circumstance, i.e.: From now on, you can also pull the wool over the eyes of the leader of the cattle without being excluded from the proper slaughter afterwards. Instead, you can enter the level again and again. A change that should please many a fan.
