The first few minutes are especially important for the course of a LoL match, so you should decide on the right items right from the start. What options you have, we explain here.

The choice of the right starting item influences the game in LoL enormously. Therefore, it is even more important to know which options are available and what suits you best. In the following text you will find the answer to this question.

What is a starting item?

Startup items are a class of items that are available in the LoL shop. They differ from base items in that they cannot be made into other items. Starting items are almost exclusively purchased at the beginning of the game.

The Jungle starters are not covered below as they are a different class.

Doran’s items

Doran’s items are probably the most well-known starting items in the game. They are also the most commonly used. Doran’s Blade provides attack damage, Doran’s Ring provides skill strength and Doran’s Shield provides health. Thus, the items already cover a large part of the required values.

  • Doran’s Blade
  • Doran’s Ring
  • Doran’s Shield

Support items

Support items Players:inside have their own selection of items to choose from. On the one hand, there are the items for aggressive supporters who want to receive gold for attacks. For this, there is the Spectral Sickle and the Spell Thief’s Dagger. Depending on whether the chosen champion scales with ability strength or attack strength, you then choose your item. On the other hand, there are the supporters who have to engage in close combat and therefore need more life and defence. The relic shield and the steel shoulder plates are suitable for this.

  • Spectral Sickle/ Dagger of the Spell Thief
  • Relict Shield/ Steel Shoulder Plates

Other starting items

In addition to the above standards, there are also other starting items. Dark seal is suitable for champions who snowball. So champions who gain an advantage with one kill and then make it easier to get the next one. On champions who need a lot of mana and play safer rather than more aggressively, the Tear of the Goddess is often built. This helps enormously to improve the mana budget. The Sickle is quite similar to Doran’s Blade, but is better suited for more passive players. Last but not least, the Corrupting Potion is great for champions who want to fight a lot in the lane.

  • Dark Seal
  • Tear of the Goddess
  • Sickle
  • Decaying Potion
