A bug in the game’s own anti-cheat programme currently excludes Steam users from New World. We explain how you can still play the game.
The launch of New World has so far been as bumpy as a cobblestone street in the old town. After endless queues due to too little server capacity and repeatedly extended maintenance work, another problem has caused discontent among the players in the past few days – for some, New World simply no longer starts via Steam.
Game’s own anti-cheat tool as the cause of the problems
Some players are currently complaining that New World can no longer be started via the Steam client. The developers of the MMO have already identified the culprit: The anti-cheat tool Easy Anti Cheat (EAC), which comes with the game, is said to be responsible for the problems.

Happily, the developers have already come up with two solutions that affected players should try:
Solution 1: Verify your game files with Steam. Right-click on New World in your library and select Properties. Under the menu item Local Files you will find the button Verify Game Files for Errors….
Solution 2: You must repair Easy Anti Cheat. Again, start by right-clicking on New World, but this time move the mouse to Navigate and select Browse Local Files in the menu that appears. This will open the New World game folder. There you will find the EasyAntiCheat folder and the setup file EasyAntiCheat_Setup.exe, which you must execute. In the window that appears, all you have to do is press the Repair button.
These two options should give you access to New World again. Otherwise, you will have to wait for an official patch that will fix the problem without user involvement.
By the way, the free character transfers are supposed to start soon, which should allow you to move to another server to your friends without any problems after the queue chaos at release.
