‎Far Cry 6 Game Time

Far Cry 6 offers the largest open world of the series and plenty of tasks. We break down what is worthwhile and how much time you should invest.

The fact that Far Cry 6 has the largest open world of the series so far sounds like a threat to some. Who’s going to play all that? Especially since Yara is not only huge, but also so packed with nebemissions, bases, treasure hunts, car races and more that you almost forget about the fall of the resident dictator – in the test, this didn’t exactly leave us excited:

Played Far Cry 6 for seven hours: This open world has everything but guts

Nevertheless, you can have a lot of fun with Far Cry 6 – if you play it right and manage your time cleverly. We therefore not only list how long you need for main and side missions or bits and pieces in the open world, but also analyse what the optimal balance between gameplay and time looks like.

This is how long it takes you to play through Far Cry 6

But let’s start with the hard numbers:

  • Main story only: If you really only play the main story with its 56 missions, it will take you on average between 15 and 20 hours to reach the end credits. That’s about the same as the predecessors, which took between 13 and 18 hours to complete.
    • Main story with extras: The campaign and a few side missions or activities cost about 20 to 30 hours. We explain why this is the silver bullet for us below.
    • For completionists: If you really want to take in everything despite the size and scope, you should plan on 50 to 60 hours and still be prepared for Far Cry 6 not ending with the credits.

These tasks are worthwhile in the Open World

Not every mission or activity in the game feels equal. Some promise juicy rewards, while others you should only touch if they are great fun. If you want to get the most out of Far Cry 6 and still get through it quickly, you should put this task on your to-do list and ignore all the others. This should bring you out at an average of 20 to 30 hours:

Yaranian Stories: The 29 side missions behind the purple compass symbols do not deliver an Oscar-worthy plot, but entertaining little stories including weapons, equipment or even the five Amigo companions as rewards. Drive over the icon on the map and look at the rewards. If they convince you, you should definitely take the orders with you.

Treasure hunts: In addition to the chests scattered around, you can recover 21 treasures hidden behind small puzzles at the pink diamond markers: Sometimes you have to overcome electrified water, sometimes you have to dive for a chest in shark-infested waters or search for numbered boats to pick a door lock. The gameplay is entertaining and fun – also because, for a change, you mostly climb and puzzle instead of shooting. An achievement also usually gives you unique weapons or other valuable equipment.

Bandidos mini-game: Otherwise, you can easily get new weapons by freeing hostages in the world and then sending them on missions via a text board with mini-decisions. More tangible rewards jump out here without you having to do much. You can find the task in all rebel camps.

Coop Mode: Not a task, but a way to play – why not tackle Far Cry 6 together? Only the host gets to keep your progress, but you take your captured lead syringes and clothes with you. This way you’ll also have an easier game in your open world and more fun grazing the icons together.

Why these missions? If you want to play through Far Cry 6 quickly, you need good equipment above all. That’s exactly what the missions promise and, on top of that, they bring the greatest variety and entertaining stories. This way, you not only shorten the game time, but you also have much more fun than if you graze through all the tasks and then bathe in countless redundant weapons or pieces of clothing.

The open-world game has the problem that very many systems in it become redundant over time. It only makes sense to work out the optimal weapon for yourself at the workbenches until you have one of the overpowered unique shooting irons in your hands, and you can also secure temporary poison protection from your home-cooked canteen food with a gas mask, which you even pick up during the main story.

Won’t Far Cry 6 be too hard then? In theory, there is a certain level for the areas that scales with you if you exceed it. In this way, the open world should always remain challenging. In practice, however, Far Cry 6 has little to offer you on both difficulty levels – even if you are underlevelled. As long as you carry high-quality equipment and use it appropriately for the situation, you have nothing to fear. If the going gets tough, the level can be adjusted smoothly in the game.

These are activities you should avoid if you don’t enjoy them

If you love fishing in games, you should of course also take up a fishing rod in Far Cry 6. Nevertheless, these tasks are not very worthwhile in comparison if you don’t want to spend a lot of time in the Open World:

    • Control points and FND bases clear the roads and grant you resources, which you can find in chests everywhere anyway. You need them for the optional settlement expansion, whose bonuses are also not really worthwhile. Only take the ones that are really annoying or drive around them.
You should only get rid of anti-aircraft guns if you like to travel a lot in the air. Otherwise, fast travel will cover your needs to get from A to B quickly.
You can exchange your loot from hunting and fishing for money. You can also find Yaranese coins everywhere, so don’t bother.Criptograma chests are useful in that they provide you with high quality clothing. Compared to the tasks above, however, it is a bit more tedious to look for the corresponding pictures. Only look for them if you don’t have any other decent equipment at hand.Buying weapons, supremos and more is also unnecessary if you complete the recommended missions. Besides, the first supremo with the missiles is the best anyway. You don’t have to collect vehicles and horses and drive them to stations because there are always enough vehicles to drive, fly or ride.
Mini-games such as cockfighting, car racing or dominoes serve more as occupational therapy and can thus be safely ignored.))

We recommend that you invest no more than 30 hours and complete the tasks that are the most fun or promise the greatest profit. Then you’ll get through the big open-world game quickly and experience all the highlights.
