Sad news for all fans of V and Geralt: CD Projekt Red announces that the NextGen update for both titles has been postponed until next year.

No good news from CD Project Red. As the Polish studio has announced, the big NextGen update for both Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3 has been postponed. Now the visual upgrades will not be ready until 2022.

No exact reasons given

The exact reason for the decision to postpone was left open. In a short statement via Twitter, they wrote: “Sorry for the extended wait, but we want to do it right.

After all, they don’t just mention the year 2022, but also more precise time frames in which the updates are to be released. For Cyberpunk 2077, they are now aiming for the first quarter of 2022, while The Witcher 3 will be released in the second quarter. At least: Both NextGen updates will continue to be free of charge.

However, the short statement is not enough to dull the reactions to this news. Numerous users on social media once again know no mercy for the studio and either make fun of the developers or are simply annoyed that they have to wait even longer for the updates.

But there were signs: CD Projekt Red made no secret of the fact that the NextGen updates could be delayed again. In the annual report for the first half of 2021, for example, it was made clear that in the case of Cyberpunk 2077, they still planned to release the NextGen update in 2021, but that the release could also be delayed if they were not satisfied with the result.

Only for The Witcher 3 were they optimistic and stated that the update would definitely still be released in 2021. It is not known what reasons have now led to a postponement.

If you don’t want to wait until then, you can already find a remedy with mods. We have summarised the best mods for you in this video:

This is what the NextGen updates are supposed to bring

Both Cyberpunk 2077 and the already somewhat aged The Witcher 3 are supposed to cut an even better figure in terms of visuals thanks to the NextGen updates. In the case of Cyberpunk 2077, it remains to be seen whether PC users will also benefit in any way from the update, as will be the case for owners of the Xbox and PlayStation versions.

Both games are to be equipped with ray tracing and have an increased level of detail. In addition, the loading times are to be shorter. The Witcher 3 is also said to get HDR support and new game content:

Now, of course, we want to know from you what you think about the postponement. Were you already expecting it, or did your silver sword fall on your foot in shock? Write it down in the comments!
