With a new trailer, the developer behind Sons of the Forest finally reveals the release date after 2021 was no longer an option.

The release of Sons of the Forest was originally planned for 2021. However, Endnight Games announced back in March of this year that this would no longer be the case. Thanks to a new trailer on IGN, however, we now know that we only have to be patient for a few more months. In May, we will be able to go back to the dangerous island and fight for survival.

Sons of the Forest trailer fills PC release

The trailer finally reveals what most of the community has been waiting for: The release date of Sons of the Forest – at least for the PC. According to the trailer, the most anticipated survival game will be released on 20 May 2022.

It is not clear from the trailer whether the game will be released exclusively on Steam. A possible Early Access phase, as was the case with the predecessor The Forest, is also not clearly mentioned.

“Get down son!”

In addition to crafting and base building, the trailer also shows us some cannibals and new mutants waiting for us in the dense forest and dark caves. And the baby mutants also make an appearance. In a facility that is probably the luxury bunkers advertised by the flyer, they attack two men. The two appear to be father and son, which – without spoiling much The Forest – leaves room for speculation:

What is Sons of the Forest about?

As a sequel, Sons of the Forest will follow on from its 2014 predecessor The Forest. This time we crash as a soldier on the cannibal and mutant infested island and have to fight for survival.

The gameplay with its survival mechanics is clearly based on the predecessor, but will bring some improvements. These include a learning AI and more firearms, whereby the latter should not be overpowered due to scarce ammunition.

How much are you looking forward to Sons of the Forest? What are your expectations for the sequel? Feel free to write it down in the comments!
