Why is this exciting?
At the name Embark Studios, attentive GlobalESportNews readers might prick up their ears: The Swedish studio, led by ex-DICE boss Patrick Söderlund, is staffed by heaps of former Battlefield developers.
And ever since its foundation, they have been making our mouths water with big promises! Here are the three most important key points why Arc Raiders sounds so promising:
- Advanced technology: advanced AI and modern cloud computing will be the foundation for rethinking games and making them more innovative – that was the promise from Söderlund and Embark in 2018, and they increased to over 200 employees.
- Fantastic sci-fi worlds: In 2019, Embark presented a massive open world in Unreal Engine 4 for the first time – 256 square kilometres in area with dynamic weather effects! There were also first artworks: alien planets and spacesuits can be seen. In this sci-fi world, “teamwork is of the utmost importance”, they say.
- Brute action: A short but impressive clip demonstrated in 2020 that things are anything but peaceful in Embark’s game: An almost photorealistic desert landscape is shaken by rocket fire, while warriors armed with laser cannons rush across the battlefield. A small teaser with a big impact!

What else do we know?
So far there is hardly any solid info about Arc Raiders. However, multiplayer and co-op mechanics are a central element in any case, as are open and diverse landscapes. To make the world look as real as possible, Embark relies on scan data and procedural generation.

For a long time, there was talk of a Free2Play model for the title – but it is unclear whether this idea has taken hold. In 2020, there is also said to have already been a playable prototype of Arc Raiders.
