Gollum’s battle with his old Hobbit self is an essential part of HdR: Gollum. It is meant to make our lives miserable in the stealth game.

In The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, the eponymous creature tries, how could it be otherwise, to get his beloved treasure back. That this is not so easy, however, is not only due to the fact that he is not a fighter and therefore has to act rather cautiously. His past as a hobbit also plagues him in the form of a second personality. A new trailer shown at the Game Awards 2021 shows how this is implemented in the upcoming stealth game:

As in the books and films, Gollum is an internally conflicted creature. In conflict with his former Hobbit self Sméagol, he tirelessly chases after his treasure.

Daedalic Entertainment takes this inner conflict and stages it in the game. Not only do we hear which side has the upper hand in soliloquies, but we are also influenced by the second voice when making decisions. In the teaser, for example, Gollum and Smeagol struggle over whether they should hide or kill the dangerous enemies.

In the teaser trailer we get a foretaste of this, but not in the form of gameplay.

No release date has been set yet for The Lord of the Rings: Gollum. As things stand, the action adventure with a focus on stealth and story will be released in autumn 2022. PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch are supported.

The Game Awards didn’t just have more on Gollum

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum was of course only one game of many at the Game Awards. There were also other updates to already well-known games such as Lost Ark, which finally has a release date. On the other hand, the imaginative survival game Nightingale was announced.
