World of Warcraft celebrates its 16th birthday in game. There is no exciting new content, but it’s still worth checking out!

Now that Halloween is over and the Halloween nights in World of Warcraft have come to an end, the 16th anniversary celebrations for Blizzard’s long-running MMO franchise are the next event in the game.

Celebrations will continue in the game until November 22nd – just before the release of the long-awaited expansion Shadowlands. Although there are no major new features this year, it’s still worth checking out.

The 16th birthday – that’s in it
Like last year, you can access some oldschool content that Blizzard is making available to celebrate the anniversary in 2020:

– Players starting at level 30 will be able to take down the classic world bosses Kazzak, Azuregos, and the Nightmare Dragons every day, earning Loot and Time Warped tokens.
– PVP players can go to the classic Alterac Valley in PVP mode Korrak’s Revenge and dust off two mounts. For the Alliance, there is the Stormpike’s Battle Ram, and for the Horde, the Frostwolf Growl.
– In the Caverns of Time, you can complete two daily quests to get more Time Warped badges.

Once again this year, there is an exclusive item that you can only get at the birthday event: The Fabricated Cape of War is a blue cape whose color scheme is inspired by the Heart of Azeroth from Battle for Azeroth.

You can easily buy the transmog item for 200 Time Warped Tokens from historian Ma’di in the Caverns of Time. Since every character will find 200 stamps in his or her mailbox at the start of the event, you can use them for your new cape, for example.

Birthday leaves the community cold
However, the WoW community is not particularly impressed by the festivities. The bottom line is that there’s really nothing more to do than to take off the cape and finish some warmed up activities. Especially the new item doesn’t meet with much approval:

Why the event is still worthwhile
Even if the event and its rewards are not quite as exciting this year as last year, when there was a special raid and Deathwing Mount, the anniversary is still worthwhile:

By the end of the festivities, all characters will receive an additional 16 percent more reputation and experience. Since the Darkmoon Faire is also taking place at the moment, you can secure an additional ten percent bonus XP by taking a ride on the carousel.

All in all, you’ll receive 26 percent bonus XP and can play new characters up to the maximum level 50 in no time at all.

In our level guide we describe how you can reach the maximum level in record time – with the additional XP buffs the time should be even shorter! So if you want to level up a new character for Shadowlands, now is the perfect time to do so. In our character selection article, we’ll give you a few tips on how to find your perfect class.
