Famous streamer Logan Paul bought a Pokémon card set for $3.5 million only to discover it was fake.

The hype around Pokémon cards is slowly dropping a bit, but some are still interested in them. Such is the case with streamer and YouTuber Logan Paul, who has now been confronted with a nasty surprise.

All fake, despite authentication

Logan Paul has been collecting Pokémon cards for quite some time and also shared several videos in which he opens various sets. In December last year, however, he took a big step. He bought the first edition of the Base Set Pokémon Card Box for $3.5 million. The price comes about because this box is extremely rare.

After the purchase, some Pokémon card collectors came forward and said they believed the box was fake. Logan opened the box and found that their fears were justified, because the set is indeed a fake. Originally, however, the box was even considered genuine by BBCE, a card authentication company. In the Logan Paul video, they said, “There’s no sign of falsification.” But when the boxes were opened, they only contained G.I Joe cards, something completely different.

In the video, Logan Paul is understandably horrified and upset. “I’m actually always the one looking at the good side, but right now it’s just really hard. It’s just so sad for all parties. The Pokémon community alone – I mean, how many fakes are out there?”

Whether Logan Paul could receive any kind of compensation is unknown. However, this was certainly a big shock for the streamer, which might even make Paul stop collecting Pokémon cards.
