Things haven’t gone well at all for Battlefield 2042 so far. Supposedly publisher Electronic Arts is thinking about offering the game for free.
The well-known insider and leaker Tom Henderson is heating up the rumour mill around Battlefield 2042 with his tweet. Allegedly, EA’s shooter could soon become a free-to-play title.
Battlefield 2042 had a very bumpy start last year and still has to deal with many problems. The game is littered with bugs and strange hitboxes. After a very short time, Battlefield 2042 became one of the worst rated games of all time on Steam and Metacritic. However, publishers still seem to have hope of saving the game.
According to Tom Henderson’s tweet on Thursday, Electronic Arts and DICE are looking at all options that could be considered for Battlefield 2042. To get the game back on track, even the possibility of a free-to-play model would reportedly be a possibility for EA. This could attract some new players to Battlefield 2042. Nevertheless, the publisher would then have to switch to a completely different economic system.
EA is reportedly very disappointed with how Battlefield 2042 has performed and is “looking at all the options” when it comes to the title, this is including looking at Free to Play in some capacity.

Ostensibly, EA itself is disappointed with how Battlefield 2042 is performing. However, such rumours should always be taken with a grain of salt. This information from Tom Henderson has not yet been confirmed or denied by Electronic Arts. Nevertheless, the insider seems certain to have new details about a possible free-to-play model soon.
