New interface, nicer graphics and now a test phase is coming up on Steam: Highrise City is increasingly becoming an alternative to Cities: Skylines. In the new trailer, the city-building game shows how laws and research work. In addition, publisher Deck 13 has announced a playtest: Starting on 27 January, (registered players) can play the mixture of Sim City and Anno 1800 for the first time for a fortnight. The final release, meanwhile, is still planned for 2022, but there is no concrete date.

With Highrise City, the developer relies on impressive numbers: a virtual city can contain 30,000 buildings and a million inhabitants. The Unreal Engine displays a maximum of 5,000 vehicles and 20,000 passers-by on the screen at the same time.
