You would never have guessed the planned ending for Assassin’s Creed

The Desmond trilogy should have ended quite differently. Namely, on a spaceship – yes, seriously.

What do you think about spaceships in Assassin’s Creed? The series hasn’t ventured into the future yet – but we almost saw Desmond and Lucy on a journey through the galaxy anyway: In the originally planned end of the trilogy, the two would have left Earth via space travel. Sounds wacky? It gets even more absurd.

Space escape

As reported by (Eurogamer), the researcher (Lars de Wildt) has gathered many details about the discarded ending for a paper on Ubisoft’s handling of religion in games. Among other things, he spoke to 22 developers. And how should Desmond’s story have ended in the third part?

The story would also have found its end in the present. Desmond would have defeated Abstergo with his knowledge from the lives of Altair, Ezio and Connor. In the year 2012, the earth would have perished (which it is threatened with in the official ending). And for humanity to survive, Desmond would have boarded a spaceship with Lucy Stillman and flown to another world, where the two would have become a re-creation of Adam and Eve, so to speak.

Former creative director Patrice Désilets revealed to Eurogamer that this story was also the reason for Lucy’s name: “That’s why she’s called Lucy, like Australopithecus afarensis.” So a reference to the (famous fossil) of a female pre-human.

As we know, however, things turned out quite differently and much less romantic: Desmond sacrificed himself to save the world and Lucy died beforehand by his hand. Have many details of this story slipped your mind? No problem, we have summarised the complete present-day story from Assassin’s Creed to Valhalla for you:

Why was the ending changed? We don’t know all the background that led to the decision. But at least we know from Désilets’ earlier statements that he let Lucy die because Voice Actor (Kristen Bell) demanded more money. Therefore, the story twist, after which Lucy was suddenly a traitor, also came as a surprise to many players – it was not actually planned at all.

How would you have liked the deleted ending? Do you think we’ll actually get to see spaceships in Assassin’s Creed at some point?
