Into the Radius plays almost exactly like Stalker – only in VR. So much so, in fact, that wicked tongues might dub it a knock-off. At the very least, it’s heavily inspired by the gritty zone of Stalker, and makes no bones about it: filthy environments, dangerous anomalies, lots of Eastern European charm.
We don’t roam a “zone”, but a “radius”. Tough survival rules apply here: We have to eat regularly and fight gloomy ghostly creatures. To defend ourselves against the shadowy creatures, we use old Russian weapons like AS Wal and PM. Thanks to the numerous immersive features, we even clean weapons by hand, inserting a wire brush into the barrel by hand.
But what happened in the mysterious radius in the first place? That’s what we’re supposed to find out by learning to read the environmental storytelling to gather clues. Despite, or perhaps because of, the obvious parallels to Stalker, gamers on (Steam) love the title. Into the Radius gathers 91 percent positive player ratings behind it.
Into the Radius is a single player only title. The game supports the popular VR headsets Valve Index, HTC Vive, Oculus Rift and Windows Mixed Reality. Users can play Into the Radius sitting, standing or room-filling.
