The new MMO Lost Ark is off to a dream start on Steam and at times even displaces the top player.
Lost Ark celebrated great success on Steam even before its Free2Play release. Over 500,000 simultaneously active players plunged into the action role-playing game. So millions of fans must have been willing to pay 15 to 100 euros for one of the Founder’s Packs for a few goodies and three days of advance access.
Now, after a few hours of launch problems, the MMO with Diablo-style gameplay can be played for free for anyone interested. Unsurprisingly, this is also very noticeable in the player numbers.
Times at the Steam summit
Giant achievement: Lost Ark had 983,483 concurrent active players on Steam in the last 24 hours at its peak, as can be tracked on (Steamcharts.com). This temporarily knocked the long-time, undisputed leader Counter-Strike: Global Offensive out of first place, which only had 931,007 players in the same period.
Still room for improvement
Keep in mind that the launch problems kept the game closed until late in the evening in Germany. In addition, Saturday evening and Sunday are likely to be interesting times, as this is when most players are traditionally active.

In view of the development so far, it seems quite likely that Lost Ark could break through the magic threshold of one million simultaneously active players. We will have to wait and see, however, whether it succeeds.
However, even greater miracles will be needed in the coming weeks to overtake the previous all-time leader. Because PUBG: Battlegrounds has been enthroned for years with over 3.2 million simultaneously active players above anything ever achieved on Steam.
