Call of Duty: Warzone will be merged with Black Ops: Cold War on December 16, 2020, and will start a Season 1 again. A lot will change in it, which is why Warzone will get a new update. And despite the new map and many new weapons, the patch size is (relatively) limited this time.
Here we summarize all important information about the new patch: When you can start, how big the download will be and what’s in the patch notes for Season 1.
When will the Warzone update start?
On Wednesday, December 16 at 08:00 the download of the Warzone update should start. Then, all you have to do is launch the Battle.net launcher and Warzone will automatically start patching under the CoD: Modern Warfare tab.
Important note about the download: Warzone is not attached to Cold War in the same way that Modern Warfare was. What this means for you is that if you already have MW installed, then you start the season download through it. If you don’t have Warzone yet, search for it in the Battle.net store. You will then land on the Modern Warfare page, where you can install the Battle Royale for.
Prepare for payback.

How big is the download?
The download is about 24 GB on the PC. Initially, some leakers claimed that another huge update with more than 70 GB could be imminent, but this information turned out to be wrong.
Nevertheless, you will need some time to download the update – not least because the launcher tends to be a bit twitchy. If you complain about a too slow data transfer speed during the download, we have useful tips for faster downloads on Battle.net for you.
What’s new in Season 1?
Probably the most important change is the new map Rebirth Island, which is more compact than Verdansk and forces you to use new tactics. Read more about CoD:

More important changes:
- The new Gulag: You no longer end up in prison, but first in an interrogation room and then in a small version of the Nuketown map from Black Ops: Cold War.
- New mode: The new game mode “Rebirth Island: Resurgance” is – unsurprisingly – set on the new island map. It’s Battle Royale, but with respawns enabled. As long as your team is alive, you’ll end up back on the battlefield after 30 seconds, and the gulag is closed. Another new feature: when you shoot down an enemy, his entire squad becomes visible to you.
- New weapons: The guns from Black Ops: Cold War are now available in Warzone as well, with a total of 30 firearms and one melee weapon.
What about Season 1 of Cold War?
The Season 1 update for CoD: Cold War already launched on December 15 at 08:00. There are also new maps, modes and weapons in multiplayer
