For the first time in LEC history, Excel have made it to the playoffs. Supporter Mikyx tells us what their goal is now and who is particularly tough to play against.

Excel made it to the LEC playoffs for the first time with 9 wins and 9 losses in this split. There the team will compete for a spot in the Mid-Season Invitational (MSI).

Mikyx: “I want to reach the first place. “

Mikyx is a well-known supporter in the European LoL scene, who recently played for G2. However, he was replaced there by Targamas. After the start of the LEC, he suddenly joined Team Excel. Due to his successful past, some spectators believe that Excel’s entry into the playoffs is thanks to him, but he himself sees it differently.

“I don’t think my joining was the thing that made us win. I think all the players are good individually and I knew that. […] That’s why I joined them. Because they were good and I want to reach the first place with this team, at least the top three in the EU,” Mikyx explains.

The best-of-5 format

To achieve this, however, the Supporter and his team must first play Vitality in a best-of-5. Previously, it was just best-of-1 matches. Mikyx, however, is pleased with the best-of-5 format in the playoffs. They are very adaptable as a team, plus they only try to prepare for one draft in best-of-5s, he tells us. “If this one doesn’t work out, it’s a shame. […] But in a best of 5 it’s pretty nice that you can just try something in the first game,” Mikyx says.

If that doesn’t work out then, he said, you can adjust. “Possibly there’s a champion you don’t know how to play against. Maybe there’s a champion you haven’t faced in scrims. […] Then you can just ban that one for the next games,” says the supporter. The format, he says, is much more about who can adapt better:

“IT’S ABOUT IMPROVING TOGETHER AS A TEAM AND UNDERSTANDING THE META WELL. “

Despite the format being arguably beneficial for the team, one team is causing Mikyx a lot of concern: Rogue. “[…] for us, the toughest games were always against Rouge, out of all the teams we played,” he says. However, the 23-year-old sees Fnatic as the strongest team in the LEC.

But even that doesn’t change the team spirit at Excel. Whether this will be enough to achieve the ambitious goals of the support team, however, will only become clear when the LEC playoffs begin. Excel’s first game will be against Vitality on 27 March.
