The latest video from the developers of the Unity engine can hardly be distinguished from reality in parts and presents a photorealistic human being.

If one thing is certain, it’s this: game graphics are always evolving. New technologies are constantly being introduced to help create larger, more detailed and more realistic worlds. Most recently, for example, there was the announcement of Ubisoft’s Scalar, which is supposed to enable completely new games:

This is supposed to be a digital human?

One of the most difficult tasks of a game engine is probably still the believable representation of living beings and especially humans. The developers of the Unity engine now show in an impressive tech demo that they can master this task with bravura.

Photorealistic human face

You can watch the video, which is about two minutes long, above. On Unity’s (official YouTube channel) you can also find this and other short films in higher resolutions. In the short scene, the camera moves towards a woman in front of a chessboard, who is initially seated in a magnificent, palace-like room. As the background slowly changes, the woman begins to speak.

We are particularly impressed by the level of detail of the face and the realistic animations when she speaks in the short film. Especially in the last shot, the 3D engine is hardly distinguishable from a modern film shot.

Although this is only a tech demo and comparable graphics have hardly been used in games so far, the 2022 releases still have some graphic thrills to offer.

How did you like the video? Did you also find the realistic presentation impressive, or are you not blown away by such graphics demos?
