Halo Infinite: Developer statement causes mockery and derision among fans

The long wait for new content is enraging Halo Infinite players. A developer’s Reddit post caused new anger.

After the free-to-play multiplayer portion of Halo: Infinite was released on 15 November 2021, it initially looked like developer 343 Industries had delivered a surprise hit.

Player numbers skyrocketed, at times almost 300,000 players joined the fray via Steam alone. Disappointed Battlefield 2042 players in particular were looking for an alternative. In our test, however, we already noticed that the game was already grating in many places.

Progression and long-term motivation were already the problem areas back then, and little has changed to this day. The hype wave died down a long time ago, which is also reflected in the (Steam figures).

The continuing lack of new content is angering fans more and more, which has now become the undoing of a developer from 343 Industries on Reddit.

 

Statements meet with incomprehension

The stumbling block was a Twitter post by Halo community director Brian Jarrard, which was shared among the fan community on Reddit. Below this post, a 343 developer with the pseudonym ske7ch343 also posted, who probably only meant well, but was off the mark with his choice of words.

There are indeed many challenges and limitations, and they are not happy about not being able to meet the expectations of the community. The focus is currently on Season 2 and they have more news to share in the coming weeks.

Info on the side: The single player campaign of Halo: Infinite also had some news up its sleeve for series fans. The open world in particular stands out – and is at the same time the big weakness of the shooter:

So far, so unproblematic. But then he comments on the background of the content that is only slowly appearing on the horizon, thus igniting an inferno of ridicule and malice:

In the meantime, he says, a lot of production planning, costing, scheduling and staff recruitment is going on behind the scenes, which is why it is not yet possible to release regular updates. The team understood that the fans were running out of patience, but simply needed a little more time.

With that, the damage was done. The comment was not only punished with numerous downvotes, but was also answered diligently. Many users have no understanding for why the studio is still busy with fundamental things like personnel and planning five months after the release.

After all, the game had been in development for many years and normally content is planned months or even years in advance. The user (MustacheEmperor) can’t help but scoff a bit and at the same time sums up the basic tenor of the thread pretty well:

“If only someone had guessed before release that the playerbase would expect content and patches, and that creating content and patching netcode would require salaried engineers
“.

 

Gloomy future for the shooter?

The current mood in the community doesn’t seem to be the best at the moment. Yet there has been some new content in recent months that has even been a lot of fun.

The coming months should be exciting and at the same time groundbreaking for the long-term success of Halo: Infinite. After all, 343 Industries has already taken action on the initially much-criticised Battle Pass after a short time and has promised improvements.
