It’s not uncommon for multiple genres to be mixed together in a game. But Yurukill: The Calumniation Games is a mix that probably no one saw coming.
In the adventure game you play the protagonist Sengoku Shunju, who is accused of killing 21 people. Now he is forced to fight for his freedom in the amusement park Yurukill Land or die there. As a prisoner, you must join a victim, here called Executioner, and together find evidence and testimony there, as well as solve puzzles to ultimately determine why you deserve freedom.
The Executioner’s Verdict, however, is presented in the game as a bullet hell shooter. There you compete against the victims in their minds to earn your freedom. The story is written by Kakegurui creator Homura Kawamoto and is said to come with many twists.
Yurukill: The Calumniation Games will be released on 08 July for PS5, PS4 and Switch. A PC version is also being planned for a later date.
