All Star Wars series at a glance: But that’s not the end of it: Disney is planning a lot more Star Wars series, which we will provide you with an overview of in the following article. We summarise the most important information about Ahsoka, Andor and Lando

All upcoming Star Wars series for Disney Plus

Obi-Wan Kenobi

  • When do we start? 27 May 2022
  • Who’s performing? Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi, Hayden Christensen as Darth Vader, Moses Ingram as Reva, Rupert Friend as the Grand Inquisitor, Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse and more
  • How many episodes are there? Six episodes
  • How many seasons are there? Only one season for now, but Lucasfilm is not ruling out a second

This is what it’s all about: Fans have waited a long time for this, now it’s actually becoming reality: Ewan McGregor will once again slip into the Jedi robes of Obi-Wan Kenobi and swing his lightsaber for his personal TV series. Also in the mix: Hayden Christensen as Darth Vader.

The action will take place between Episode 3 – Revenge of the Sith and Episode 4 – A New Hope as Obi-Wan Kenobi watches over a young Luke Skywalker on Tatooine after the destruction of the Jedi Order, the fall of the Republic and the rise of the Galactic Empire.

What else is there to know
? Season 1 of Kenobi will launch on Disney Plus on May 27, 2022. The story is actually designed as a mini-series. That means there’s actually only supposed to be one season. In the meantime, however, Lucasfilm boss has rowed back on this, so there could still be a second season at some point.

Andor

  • When does it start? Probably summer 2022
  • Who’s performing? Diego Luna as Cassian Andor, Alan Tudyk as K2-SO, Anton Valensi, Stellan Skarsgard, Genevieve O’Reilly
  • How many episodes are there? Possibly up to 12 episodes
  • How many seasons are there? Second season reportedly already planned

This is what it’s all about: The first spin-off of the War of the Stars universe Rogue One: A Star Wars Story didn’t exactly end rosy for the title characters Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) and Cassian Andor (Diego Luna). Nevertheless, the latter is set to get his own TV series set before Rogue One.

In addition to Diego Luna as Cassian Andor, Alan Tudyk will also return to portray the Imperial droid K-2SO, who has been drawn to the Alliance side by the Rebels. The prequel series to Rogue One is said to include elements of an espionage thriller and tell stories of a galaxy ruled by the Empire.

What else is there to know? As of November 2021, the project finally seemed to be getting off the ground: According to Diego Luna’s own updates, filming has started on the prequel series. According to Lucasfilm, Andor will launch on Disney Plus in 2022. According to actor Stellan Skarsgard (via ComicBook), a second season is also planned, with filming set to begin in autumn 2022.

According to a previously unconfirmed report from MakingStarWars, Andy Serkis (Supreme Leader Snoke from episodes 7 and 8) could return to the War of the Stars universe with Andor. The usually very well-informed insider site claims to have heard about the casting. Should the alleged information prove true, however, Andy Serkis does not necessarily have to appear as Snoke – which would not quite fit the time at which the series is set anyway. It is much more likely that Andy Serkis will appear as another character.

The Mandalorian – Season 3

  • When does it start? Probably end of 2022
  • Who’s performing? Pedro Pascal, Carl Weathers, Giancarlo Esposito, Katee Sackhoff, Christopher Lloyd
  • How many episodes are there? Eight episodes per season
  • How many seasons are planned? At least four

This is what it’s all about – spoiler warning! Following the events of seasons 1 and 2, the spin-off The Book of Boba Fett continued the story of The Mandalorian. In it, Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and Grogu were reunited, while the titular Mandalorian was cast out by the Armor Mistress (Emily Swallow).

Din, however, is still in possession of the Darksaber: the legendary weapon could be the pivotal point of the third season. With it, Djarin has the rightful claim to the throne of Mandalore, which is likely to lead to direct conflict with Bo-Katan Kryce (Katee Sackhoff).

What else is there to know
? In March 2022, filming of the third season The Mandalorian was completed. This makes a release of the new episodes towards the end of the year realistic – even if Giancarlo Esposito claims otherwise. According to the actor of Moff Gideon, it will be ready in the summer. What we think about it, we reveal to you in our analysis.

The Bad Batch – Season 2

  • When do we start? 2022
  • Who’s performing? Dee Bradley Baker in the role of various clone troopers
  • How many episodes are there? Probably 16 episodes, as was the case with season 1
  • How many seasons are there? Two – Season 1 is already available on Disney+

This is what it’s all about: On May 4, 2021, a sort of quasi-sequel to The Clone Wars, The Bad Batch, launched on Disney Plus. The was dedicated to the titular Clone Force 99, made up of the elite clone troopers Hunter, Wrecker, Tech, and Echo, since joined by Omega, while Crosshair works for the Galactic Empire

With a second season, this story set between episodes 3 and 4 will now continue, but there are no concrete details about the plot yet. A first teaser for Season 2 of The Bad Batch is already online, but it doesn’t show much more than a new logo. So fans can remain curious where the odyssey of Clone Force 99 and her protégé Omega will go in the episodes starting in 2022.

What else is there to know
? As with season 1, Dave Filoni will continue to be in charge of The Bad Batch. Exactly when the new episodes of the animated series will launch on Disney Plus remains an open question

Ahsoka

  • When will it start? Unknown
  • Who’s performing? Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka Tano, Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker, Natasha Liu Bordizzu as Sabine Wren, reportedly Lars Mikkelsen as Admiral Thrawn, and Mena Massoud as Ezra Bridger
  • How many episodes are there? Unknown
  • How many seasons are planned? Designed as a limited series, therefore probably only one

This is what it’s all about: After her live-action debut in season 2 of The Mandalorian, Ahsoka Tano is sticking around Disney+: Rosario Dawson is returning in the role for her own TV series. It is not yet known exactly what the series will be about. However, we can already make some initial assumptions about the plot.

Ahsoka Tano’s story is not yet finished after the two animated series The Clone Wars and Rebels. In the course of her appearance in The Mandalorian, she revealed that she is still searching for the Imperial Admiral Thrawn. By following in his footsteps, Ahsoka hopes to track down the missing Jedi Ezra Bridger – as it is now known, she may also be assisting the Mandalorian warrior Sabine Wren from Rebels.

However, the Ahsoka series is also likely to delve into the titular heroine’s past: As THR reports, Hayden Christensen is not only returning for Kenobi in the role of Anakin Skywalker. The actor from the Star Wars prequels Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith will thus meet his former student for the first time in the course of a live-action film adaptation. Whether in flashback form or as a Force ghost remains to be seen at this point.

What else is there to know? After Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni already worked closely together on The Mandalorian, the two will also be responsible for Ahsoka together. Production on Ahsoka is scheduled to begin in December 2021. According to a (Deadline report) from November 2021, Natasha Liu Bordizzo (Guns Akimbo, The Society) will appear as Sabine Wren. The Mandalorian warrior already fought side-by-side with Ahsoka Tano in Rebels and was the intervening owner of the legendary Darksaber.

Meanwhile, Disney may also have found two key cast members for Ahsoka: LRM Online reports that Lars Mikkelsen (Star Wars Rebels) and Mena Massoud (Aladdin) have been cast as Thrawn and Bridger. While this has not been officially confirmed, Rosario Dawson shared the article on her Instagram channel – only to delete the post shortly after. Reports from Kessel Run Transmissions and Forbes also coincide with this.

In August, portals like THR and Slashfilm also report that Disney is currently looking for an actress to play Sabine Wren. The Mandalorian warrior already played a leading role in the animated series Star Wars Rebels and worked closely with Ahsoka, Ezra and co. In fact, Sabine was the one who delivered the legendary lightsaber “Darksaber” to Bo-Katan Kryce (Katee Sackhoff) before it fell into the hands of Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito).

Ahsoka would thus represent the live-action debut of Sabine Wren. However, an official confirmation is still pending and it remains to be seen who will be considered for the role.

Neither is it known whether Billy Dee Williams (The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, The Rise of Skywalker) or Donald Glover (Solo: A Star Wars Story) are involved in the project.

200 years before the events of Episode 1 The Dark Menace provides a kind

This is what it’s about: Leslye Headland (Matryoshka on Netflix) is developing a new TV series for Disney+ called The Acolyte. The project is set in the era of the High Republic – about 200 years before the events of Episode 1 – The Dark Menace. The Acolyte is supposed to be a kind of mystery thriller in which the dark forces of the galaxy slowly but surely fight their way back into power.

What else is there to know? There is no information about the start date, the cast, the story or the like yet.

Whether A Droid Story will be a classic 2D animated film, use 3D technology, or we might even be dealing with a puppet show in the style of The Dark Crystal: Era of Resistance remains to be seen

These Star Wars series have already started

The Mandalorian – Season 1 and 2

  • When on Disney Plus? Season 1 since November 12, 2019, Season 2 since October 30, 2020
  • Who’s performing? Pedro Pascal, Carl Weathers, Giancarlo Esposito, Temuera Morrison
  • How many episodes are there? Eight episodes per season
  • How many seasons are planned? At least four

What it’s about: The Mandalorian is all about the titular bounty hunter Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal), who, in the course of an assignment, unexpectedly makes the acquaintance of the small, green and Force-gifted creature “Baby Yoda”.

Djarin takes on a sort of mentoring role for the child as the plot progresses, while Imperial Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito) has it in for him. The villain is out to bring new glory to the Empire after Episode 6 – Return of the Jedi Knights and before Episode 7 – The Force Awakens, following the fall of Emperor Palpatine.

What else to know: The Mandalorian is directed by Jon Favreau (Iron Man, The Jungle Book), with Davel Filoni (The Clone Wars, Rebels) as producer and director. A third season is already in the works, while there will be at least a fourth. Season 3 could be released at the end of 2022.

The Bad Batch – Season 1

  • When on Disney Plus? May 4, 2021
  • Who performs? Dee Bradley Baker in the role of various clone troopers
  • How many episodes are there? Season 1 contains a total of 16 episodes
  • How many seasons are there? Two seasons

This is what it’s all about: Season 7 concluded The Clone Wars on Disney+, followed by the next animated series in the War of the Stars universe: The Bad Batch. Once again, Dave Filoni is responsible for this, dedicating his own story to the Clone Force 99 known as “Bad Batch”.

The TV series revolves around what happens to the motley crew consisting of Hunter, Crosshair, Wrecker, Tech and Echo after the Clone Wars and Order 66. The clone warriors of Clone Force 99 have nothing to do with the Galactic Empire, but instead hire themselves out as mercenaries after its rise. In the process, the clones cross paths with characters like Fennec Shand, Captain Rex and even Moff Tarkin.

What else is there to know
? The Bad Batch was once again directed by Brad Rau, who was already heavily involved in Rebels and Resistance. The first episode of The Bad Batch is 70 minutes long, the first season consists of 16 episodes in total.

Star Wars: Visions

  • When on Disney Plus? Sep 22, 2021
  • Who performs? Lucy Liu, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Temuera Morrison, Neil Patrick Harris, Alison Brie, Karen Fukuhara, Kimiko Glenn, Simu Liu, David Harbour, Henry Golding, Jamie Chung, George Takei and many more
  • How many episodes are there? 9
  • How many seasons are there? Unknown

This is what it’s all about: Star Wars: Visions will be an anthology series, not unlike Love, Death and Robots on Netflix: each episode will be the responsibility of a different Japanese anime studio or artist, giving us a completely new perspective on the War of the Stars universe. And, of course, the stories, characters, settings and animation styles of each episode will be different.

What else is there to know? The Japanese animation studios Trigger (Kill la Kill, Little Witch Academia), Kamikaze Douga (Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure) and Production I.G (Ghost in the Shell, Attack on Titan, Psycho-Pass) are among those involved in Star Wars: Visions. Whether there will be several seasons is currently unknown.

The Book of Boba Fett

  • When does it start? 29 December 2021
  • Who’s performing? Temuera Morrison as Boba Fett, Ming-Na Wen as Fennec Shand
  • How many episodes are there? Seven episodes in season 1
  • How many seasons are planned? Unknown

This is what it’s all about: With the season two finale of The Mandalorian, we finally have certainty: Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison) is returning with Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen) by his side for a spin-off on Disney+. Judging by the post-credits scene from Chapter 16: Salvation, it’s likely to be about Fett building a criminal empire as Tatooine’s new gangster boss.

The series is said to take place in the same time frame as The Mandalorian – that is, between episode 6 and episode 7 – but flashbacks to the bounty hunter’s past will also be present. For example, we’ll learn what happened to Boba Fett before his return in season 2 of The Mandalorian.

Incidentally, in a report by Collider in June 2021, The Book of Boba Fett is referred to as “The Mandalorian season 2.5”. According to this, fans can look forward to the return of numerous well-known characters. According to rumours, Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and Cobb Vanth (Timothy Olyphant) will play a role, for example.

What else is there to know? Originally, it wasn’t entirely clear whether The Book of Boba Fett would become the core of the third season of The Mandalorian, a TV series in its own right, or a short film special, for example. On 21 December 2021, Disney and Lucasfilm now officially announced the spin-off for the bounty hunter as its own TV series.

Speaking to Express in July 2021, Temuera Morrison announced the directors of The Book of Boba Fett. These are old acquaintances who were already involved in The Mandalorian. These include Jon Favreau (Chapter 9: The Marshal), Dave Filoni (Chapter 13: The Jedi), Bryce Dallas Howard (Chapter 11: The She-Throne) and Robert Rodriguez (Chapter 14: The Tragedy).

These Star Wars series are currently on hold

  • Rangers of the New Republic
  • When do we start? Unknown
  • Who’s performing? Unknown
  • How many episodes are there? Unknown
  • How many seasons are there? Unknown

What it’s about: The new live-action series Rangers of the New Republic takes place at the same time as the plot of The Mandalorian, i.e. between Episode 6 – Return of the Jedi Knights and Episode 7 – The Force Awakens. What exactly the story is about is again not really clear.

According to Lucasfilm, Rangers of the New Republic will “tie into future stories in the Star Wars universe” and lead to a “climatic story event”. We could imagine Rangers of the New Republic possibly leading directly into the Star Wars sequels or there being overlaps with other TV series like The Mandalorian or Ahsoka.

What else is there to know? After The Mandalorian and Ahsoka, Rangers of the New Republic is already the third series for which Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni wanted to work together. After the firing of Cara Dune actress Gina Carano, who was likely to play a major role in Rangers of the New Republic, the project was put on hold for the time being.
