Asterigos: Curse of the Stars is said to feature heavy and varied combat, but also a story driven by decisions.

If you take a look at the pictures and videos of the action role-playing game Asterigos, the project initially looks like a simple combination of two games: The visuals are at first strongly reminiscent of Immortals: Fenyx Rising, but especially in videos the similarity to Souls-Likes like Elden Ring is then noticeable. In fact, however, Asterigos wants to be even more than that.

What is Asterigos: Curse of the Stars?

In case of doubt, the best first impression of a game is given by a gameplay trailer. It tells us little about the story, but shows us some of the action and the enemies that await us in Asterigos.

In Asterigos we play the fighter Hilda, who must explore the cursed city of Aphes to rescue her missing father. Combat as well as exploration and story are to play a role. Asterigos comes from the rather unknown developer studio Acme and is scheduled for release in autumn 2022.

Weapons and fighting styles

In combat we have six different types of weapons to choose from. Of these, we can equip two at a time to create our own fighting style:

Sword and Shield: If we wear this combination, we don’t do a lot of damage, but we can block most frontal attacks.

(~) Daggers: With daggers we can make many quick attacks while staying mobile and dodging quickly.

(~) Spear: A precise weapon with which parrying has to be learned. If we succeed, however, we can lunge at powerful counterattacks.

(~) Hammer: A heavy but probably slow weapon that does a lot of damage and can break through enemy cover.

(~) Staff: With this weapon we can perform ranged attacks and hurl fireballs at our enemies, as can be seen in the trailer. Probably less practical for melee combat.

(~) Bracelets: Magical weapons with which we can set traps for our enemies.

In Aphes, we encounter 60 different monsters and 22 unique bosses that are meant to make our lives miserable. Because, as befits a Souls-Like, the combat should of course not be a piece of cake. Apparently, we can also use various abilities that can already be seen in the trailer.

World and story

Asterigos not only wants to offer us varied battles, but also an interesting world that invites you to explore and tells an exciting story about the curse. The city of Aphes is inspired by ancient Rome and Greek mythology. If you like this, you should definitely take a look at Immortals: Fenyx Rising:

In our search for our father, we have to make numerous decisions in Asterigos, which probably also influence the outcome of the game. We reveal the history of the cursed city through conversations, documents and cutscenes.

In addition to the story, numerous side quests and collectibles await us. However, it is not clearly stated whether the world of Asterigos will be an open world or whether there will rather be individual areas that can be freely explored.

What do you think of Asterigos? Do you like the mix of Immortals and Elden Ring or are you still sceptical because the game comes from a relatively unknown developer? Feel free to write your opinion in the comments
