We’ve known since September 2020 that Ubisoft is working on a remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. But development is going anything but smoothly. Because the new developer seems to be overwhelmed, Ubisoft Montréal will be in charge of the title again. Thus the trilogy returns to its creator.

Ubisoft doesn’t always seem to be clear about where they want their announced games to go. The drama surrounding Skull & Bones is still in full swing and things don’t look any better for Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. At the beginning, the Indian spin-offs Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai were entrusted with the development and the release date was set for January 2021. But only a short time later, the release was postponed to March 2021, before the release was finally put on hold altogether. Yesterday afternoon, there was finally a sign of life.

The original developer, Ubisoft Montréal, is taking care of the development of the remake again as of now. However, it will take some time to reorganise the scope of the title. What does this mean? The development time for Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time will drag on for a while. There doesn’t seem to be a release in sight anytime soon. Should this change, we will keep you informed. How things are going at Ubisoft in general.
