Batman ventures into Unreal Engine 5 and brings his own combat system. The tech demo therefore lets us dream of an Arkham game with new technology.

The games in the Batman Arkham series were arguably some of the most popular games based around the popular superhero in the past decade. This is largely due to the innovative combat system at the time, which inspired several other games.

Now a new tech demo in Unreal Engine 5 has surfaced, showing Batman complete with snappy combat system in the megacity from The Matrix Awakens. It’s not quite the Arkham system, but it at least makes you dream of a Batman game in the UE5.

Almost like a real game

This is made possible by the Youtuber (JSFILMZ), who has already recorded several tests and videos in the Unreal Engine 5. In his video, he shows how the Bat Man moves through the already familiar city from the Matrix demo. In around 2:40 minutes, the superhero fights against armoured opponents in some combat interludes here. See for yourself:

The Unreal Engine 5 Batman doesn’t move quite as fluidly as his Arkham counterpart, but he looks a lot better. Especially the lighting effects in the city at night show what the new engine can conjure up on the screen.

In addition, it has been given some interface elements, such as a life bar at the top centre and abilities with a cooldown display on the right side. The area at the top left looks like a level or experience display. This could be a sign that the modder is at least working on a playable version of the demo including a combat system.

There’s more Batman in the megacity

The video of Batman fighting above is the Youtuber’s second of the Batman in Unreal Engine 5. In the first video, released a few days earlier, we see Batman sneaking up on his opponents and taking them out from behind. Again, the interface elements mentioned earlier are already present.

Bat, however, is far from the first hero to romp around the Unreal Engine 5 megacity. (Superman) was the first, with which you can even fly through the city yourself on your PC. This was followed by (Spiderman), who can also shimmy through the urban canyons with his spider threads in UE5.

However, it is still unclear when the first real superhero game with Epic’s new graphics engine will be released. In this article, however, we have summarised for you which games already rely on the UE5:

(Which games use the Unreal Engine 5)?

Have you seen enough superheroes in Unreal Engine 5 by now or can’t you get enough? Have you tried one of the demos yourself? Let us know if you have!
