Six classes are available at release in Blizzard’s new Dibalo offshoot for smartphones and the PC. We have an overview and enlighten you in advance about the details.

Classes have played an important role in Diablo since the beginning. Over time, the selection has grown and some fans have become particularly fond of certain classes. However, in each Diablo there is always only a selection of different classes. For example, there is no Druid in Diablo 3, which only appears again in Diablo 4, while Diablo 3 introduced the Witch Doctor and Demon Hunter – which again we will most likely not see in Diablo 4.

In this article, we take a look at which classes are playable in Diablo Immortal from the start. Diablo 3 players in particular will feel very much at home here. If you’re looking for general info on Immortal,

All classes in the overview

  • The Barbarian
  • The Sorceress
  • The Demon Slayer
  • The Crusader
  • The Monk
  • The Necromancer

Which classes could still come?

It’s considered pretty certain that Diablo Immortal will come with more classes during its service cycle. After all, even the classic main parts were expanded with new classes after the release. Exactly which classes are coming, however, is still unclear. After all, there are two candidates that would be most conceivable:

  • Witch Doctor: Diablo Immortal completely uses the set from Diablo 3 for the existing classes. No wonder, after all, lead game designer Wyatt Cheng was involved in the development of Diablo 3 from the very beginning. Cheng has also been involved in the design of the witch doctor – the only class from Diablo 3 that is missing from Immortal so far. This makes the Doctor a hot candidate.
  • Blood Knight: There is a lot of speculation involved with this class. A blood knight class does not exist in any Diablo so far. However, hints of such a class have been drawn by dataminers from the Chinese version of Diablo Immortal. However, this may have been a discarded concept.

Differences from previous Diablos

You can change your class

For many, part of the fun of any Diablo is playing through the action RPG several times with different classes. However, since Diablo Immortal was mainly designed as a mobile MMO, the progression mechanics are more designed to continue playing with the same character. Nevertheless, it should remain attractive to try out the other classes as well.

For this reason, you can change your class for the first time in Immortal. At certain points in the game, you can discard your current class and choose a new one. You will keep all of your progress, including your Paragon level and items. You even get a set of new items for your new class. However, you will still need to farm for new items and gems first.

This is how classes are skilled

Diablo Immortal’s skill system is similar to Diablo 3’s. Unlike Diablo 2, there are no skill trees here. You don’t have to pay attention to where you use which experience points. Instead, new skills are automatically unlocked with each new level.

Since there is also a little less space on the common smartphone screen, your heroes only have five active abilities at any one time. The most important of these is the standard attack, which has no cooldown. All other abilities must cooldown after use. Resources like mana are no longer available at all.

The Barbarian

Strengths and Weaknesses

Strengths:

  • Fast melee fighter
  • Very high AoE damage
  • Valuable group buffs

Weaknesses:

  • Not the best defence
  • Does less damage to individual bosses
  • Quite ineffective at distance
(Barbarians prefer to be surrounded by dozens of enemies, all running into their blades.)
(Barbarians prefer to be surrounded by dozens of enemies, all running into their blades.)

All Abilities

Primary Attacks

  • Lacerate: A series of attacks, every third strike heals the barbarian.
  • Frenzy: A wild strike that speeds up with each hit.

Skills

  • Chained Spear: Three spears with chains are thrown, pulling hit enemies towards the barbarian.
  • Cleave: A powerful attack that hits all enemies directly in front of the barbarian.
  • Demoralize: A loud shout that forces enemies to attack the barbarian, but also lowers their damage.
  • Furious Charge: The barbarian charges forward, doing damage while blocking all enemies to the side.
  • Grab: The barbarian grabs a monster and uses it like a melee weapon. He can also throw the monster.
  • Ground Stomp: The barbarian stomps the ground, briefly stunning enemies in the vicinity.
  • Hammer of the Ancients: A mighty hammer is summoned, dealing huge damage and causing the heritages to quake.
  • Leap: The barbarian leaps to another spot, dealing damage to surrounding monsters.
  • Sprint: Increases the running speed and the barbarian can easily run through all enemies.
  • Undying Rage: The barbarian becomes so enraged that he cannot die and each of his attacks heals him. The buff is automatically activated as soon as the barbarian would die.
  • Whirlwind: A Diablo classic. The barbarian spins like a whirlwind and hits all enemies around him.
  • Wrath of the Berserker: As a Berserker, the Barbarian moves faster for a short time and hits faster.

The Sorceress

    Suitable for whom?

As a barbarian, you should find joy in charging straight into hordes of enemies with flashing blades. Your task will be to hack up as many enemies as possible with quick all-round blows. However, they don’t necessarily take much damage in the process. Nevertheless, they are suitable as a tank, as they can easily attract large crowds of enemies. The barbarian is probably the best melee fighter, but requires a watchful eye. Otherwise your furious Haudrauf could give up the ghost faster than you think.

    Strengths and Weaknesses

    Strengths:

    • Formidable ranged fighter
    • Powerful spell combinations
    • Very high mobility

    Weaknesses:

    • Does not withstand much damage
    • Hardly any buffs worth mentioning for the group.
    • High strategy requirement

    Suitable for whom?

The sorceress wants to be mastered. While she has many spells that can bring victory in many situations, these abilities want to be used wisely. Especially since the sorceress has to reckon with long cooldowns and needs her active abilities in group play to help the other players. Otherwise, the sorceress is mainly interested in causing a lot of damage, even to whole groups of opponents.

(As a wizard, you can expect a real storm of effects.)

    All Abilities

    Primary Attacks

    • Magic Missile: The sorceress shoots magic projectiles.
    • Electrocute: The sorceress shoots lightning from her hands, which leap from one enemy to the next.

    Skills

    • Arcane Torrent: A series of arcane projectiles are fired, striking multiple enemies.
    • Arcane Wind: Magic wind is unleashed in a direction that harms monsters and knocks them back.
    • Black Hole: A black hole is created that pulls nearby enemies to a point and deals damage over time.
    • Disintegrate: The sorceress shoots a sustained beam of pure energy, dealing damage to all enemies in its path, the damage increasing the longer the monsters are caught in the beam.
    • Ice Armor: Ice armor forms around the sorceress, absorbing damage and then shattering, dealing damage in the perimeter.
    • Ice Crystal: The sorceress creates an ice crystal that lingers in place and deals ice damage in the perimeter. At the end of its casting time, the crystal shatters and causes even more damage.
    • Lightning Nova: Lightning balls are shot in all directions, spreading out, dealing damage, and then returning to the sorceress
    • Meteor: A huge meteor is summoned, which falls from above and causes great damage. The ground is on fire afterwards.
    • Ray of Frost: A beam of cold that continuously deals damage to all enemies touched by it.
    • Scorch: The sorceress summons a ball of fire that damages monsters and throws them backwards.
    • Teleport: The sorceress teleports a short distance.
    • Slow Time: A bubble is created in which all enemies do less damage and move more slowly.

    The Demon Slayer

    Strengths and weaknesses

    Strengths:

    • Does high damage to individual targets
    • A perfect ranged fighter
    • Can keep moving all the time

    Weaknesses:

    • Possibly the most fragile class of all
    • No useful group buffs
    • Scarce skills to get out of difficult positions

    Suitable for whom?

While the sorceress can still hold her own in close combat in an emergency, you should be very meticulous about keeping your distance with the demon hunter. Here, the focus is clearly on ranged combat. It is important to keep an eye on your surroundings and always keep moving. The demon huntress also deals very high damage to individual targets, which is very desirable when fighting powerful enemies.

(The cunning demon hunters attack from a distance, or lay traps.)

    • Spinning Chakram: The Slayer throws a sharp disc in one direction, the throwing disc dealing damage to all enemies on the way there and back.
    • Punishment: The Demon Slayer spins around and shoots bolts in all directions.
    • Vengeance: The Demon Huntress transforms into the embodiment of vengeance and thus shoots additional bolts with each primary attack. At the same time, she becomes faster when enemies are nearby.

    The Crusader

    Strengths and Weaknesses

    Strengths:

    • Possesses numerous AoE skills
    • A very fast class thanks to the faithful horse.
    • Many useful buffs for the group
    • Ground solid defence

    Weaknesses:

    • Little damage to individual targets
    • Can be countered easily
    • High cooldown skills

    Suitable for whom?

The crusader is a good choice if you want to keep things simple and don’t want to overtax yourself. The knight can take a lot of damage and shouldn’t overwhelm anyone with her rather ponderous abilities. However, this makes the class anything but weak. With the help of the draw-and-quarter skill, the crusader is enormously fast and can quickly draw monsters to a point. In addition, the crusader is welcome as a supporter in every party.

(Crusaders go into battle in heavy armour and especially with a shield.)

    • Draw and Quarter: The Crusader mounts a summoned warhorse that massively increases her speed and drags enemies behind her on chains.
    • Falling Sword: A holy sword is rammed into the ground nearby, dealing damage to its perimeter. The knight can teleport to the sword.
    • Holy Banner: A banner is summoned, giving nearby allies an increased crit chance.
    • Judgment: A zone is summoned in which all enemies take damage and move slower. The zone explodes after some time, causing even more damage and stunning enemies.
    • Sacred Chain: The knight casts a sacred chain that jumps over several enemies, damaging and stunning them.
    • Shield Charge: The crusader runs towards enemies with her shield in front, knocking enemies back and dealing damage.
    • Shield Glare: The shield emits a beam of light that blinds and damages enemies directly in front of the knight.
    • Spinning Shield: The knight casts her shield, which damages enemies and then returns to the knight.
    • Sweep Attack: A mystical morning star swings through a line of enemies, this attack can also be charged.

    The Monk

    Strengths and Weaknesses

    Strengths:

    • High AoE damage
    • Fast melee and ranged attacks
    • Good at protecting allies

    Weaknesses:

    • Difficult to master
    • Not very resistant
    • Low damage to individual targets

    Suitable for whom?

As a Monk, you’ll need to be on your toes. To get the most out of this class, you should always be on the move and coordinate your skills well. The monk is quite an adaptable class. His strengths are clearly in close combat, but he can also attack at short range, is very mobile and can support allies with his buffs. Just make sure that the monk doesn’t take too many blows.

(The monk doesn't care about weapons, he draws his power from his martial arts.)

    • Wave Strike: The strike triggers a wave that sweeps monsters along and then explodes.

    The Necromancer

    Strengths and Weaknesses

    Strengths:

    • Good AoE damage
    • High damage to single targets
    • Can summon multiple obedient servants

    Weaknesses:

    • Not particularly agile
    • Requires the wise use of resources
    • Neither outstanding in ranged nor in close combat

    Suitable for whom?

The Necromancer is the only true pet class in Immortal and is therefore suitable for you if you like to summon allies. At the same time, the necromancer is dependent on a special resource: corpses. Since all other classes do without resources like mana, the necromancer is a real exotic and has to be managed well. But that also makes him unique.

(Surrounded by skeletons and undead, the necromancer is not that uncomfortable.)

    Skills

    • Bone Armor: The necromancer and nearby allies are protected from damage by a shield of bone.
    • Bone Spikes: Bone spikes shoot out of the ground, injuring and stunning enemies.
    • Bone Spirits: The necromancer sends a persistent barrage of bone spirits at his enemies.
    • Bone Wall: A wall of bone is created, blocking movement of friends and foes, but also blocking projectiles.
    • Command Golem: The necromancer summons a bone golem that fights enemies for a time and has a jump attack.
    • Command Skeletons: The Necromancer automatically summons undead and can have them attack a point.
    • Corpse Explosion: All corpses in the vicinity explode and deal damage.
