The anti-cheat software Ricochet has banned thousands of players over the last few months and trolled them in the process.

Cheaters are a never-ending problem in Warzone. Now anti-cheat developer Ricochet has announced how many cheaters have been banned since April.

Incredible number

As announced by Call of Duty’s official Twitter account, over 180,000 cheaters have been banned from Warzone since April. The figures were released along with an update to the anti-cheat software Ricochet and a (Progress Report). In the report, a Q&A also answers the most important questions about Ricochet and Warzone. Even if these numbers give hope for a solution to the problem, the fight against cheaters is often a battle against windmills. Even if thousands of accounts are banned every day, the affected players can simply create a new one and start all over again. In addition, cheaters are usually only banned after they have played unfairly for a certain amount of time, which is why there are no daily figures on bans.

As the Call of Duty developers shared in the official progress report, Ricochet is learning with each new day, improving its ability to detect and lock down hackers. Unfortunately, the developers of cheat software also learn, and so the whole thing too often ends up in a game of cat and mouse. Ricochet can only react to new cheats and not know about them in advance and block them. In addition, there is the option for players to report suspicious players themselves and thus mark the corresponding player for the anti-cheat software. Whether this is really useful, however, has been doubted by the community for some time.

Meanwhile, Ricochet continues to troll convicted cheaters, not only making their opponents immune to their bullet or making them invisible, but recently simply taking away their weapons and leaving them defenceless on the battlefield. This kind of punishment is not new, already for several months videos of cheaters being creatively hindered from playing have been circulating again and again.

Ricochet in Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2.0

As announced via Twitter, the collaboration between CoD and Ricochet will continue in Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2.0. From day 1, cheaters should have a hard time in the new Call of Duty games and best not make themselves comfortable at all. Whether the plan will work is questionable, however, because cheaters have unfortunately always managed to make themselves at home in new games so far.

In contrast to Warzone, Warzone 2.0 will have anti-cheat software right from the start, which has already been used successfully and learns with every cheater that is banned. From experience, however, one should be cautious with optimism when it comes to the problem with cheaters. Even Valorant, which was considered cheat-free at the beginning, had to admit over time that it has a problem with cheaters.
