Wild West, wild shooting – and vampires? Evil West relies on unusual motifs and could thus become a surprise hit in 2022.
Antique six-shooters, casual slouch hats and pithy sayings to the point of pain: that”s how we know the Wild West from films and television. But the old America is also perfectly suited for horror shooters, as Hunt: Showdown proves.
Even wacky stories like in the film Cowboys vs. Aliens could win their fans. In a similar vein, the shooter Evil West will be released in September 2022. Only this time it”s not aliens but all kinds of hellish creatures like vampires that descend upon the West.
But why should you care? Well, what we”ve seen so far points to a possible smash hit in late summer. This is also supported by the fact that the developer is not an unknown quantity at the helm.
We introduce Evil West to you in more detail. And of course we also show you what you can actually expect. The best thing to do is to get started right away.
This is what Evil West looks like
In the trailer you can watch more than ten minutes of gameplay from Evil West. It quickly becomes clear where the bat flies in the shooter for single players (with co-op option):
Not surprisingly, the trailer makes it clear: Evil West will be an action game. And what kind? That”s exactly what we”re discussing now!
What Evil West is all about
Players of Evil West trudge through the tumbleweeds as a kind of Van Helsing of the Wild West, confidently facing off against nasty vampire bosses and their disgusting creatures in several levels. To do this, you follow a story campaign.
You take on the role of the last agent of a secret society against vampires. And if you have exactly one friend, you can also play Evil West as a team. More players in co-op are not possible. But you don”t need to, after all, you are equipped with the big guns.
You use a double-barreled shotgun, an underlever repeating rifle and a six-shot interchangeable bellows with shotgun shells, reminiscent of the historical LeMat revolver. In addition, a lot of tricks and tricks for close combat – that is what characterises the fights in Evil West.
As the trailer suggests, Evil West focuses primarily on dynamic combat, studying the behaviour of opponents and slamming them to great effect. A few screenshots show more of the unusual western scenario:
You”ll also level up your weapons and skills to take on stronger and stronger enemies. Then you give the vampires electric shocks, shoot them in rapid fire and use a kind of power glove to distribute a lot of bells. What is shown is quite entertaining.
What else is there to know?
The developer of Evil West is Flying Wild Hog, who are best known for the now three-part action series Shadow Warrior. Expertise in this type of game is therefore abundant. Focus Home Interactive is taking over the publishing.
Evil West will be released on Steam and for consoles on 20 September 2022. The third-person shooter can already be pre-ordered there for 50 euros. However, we advise you to wait for our test first. We have not yet been able to play Evil West ourselves.
Editorial conclusion
I like the Shadow Warrior series for its breathless action and gripping sense of movement. Since I assume that Flying Wild Hog wants to shift their own core competencies into a new setting, I”m going in there with exactly that in mind – getting a sort of Shadow Warrior in the Wild West and via shoulder perspective with Evil West.
Disappointment comes, as we all know, from exaggerated expectations. Even if the trailers are to my taste – I”ve been fooled by advertising too often in the past. I absolutely don”t want to rumble! Maybe Evil West will be exactly the bomb that the trailers promise us. But I can”t know for sure at the moment.
