Only recently have fans found new faction names, now comes the official reveal: Alongside Immortal Empires, a new Lord Pack will also be released in August.
That this leak turns out to be true shouldn”t really surprise anyone: A few days ago, the developers of Total War: Warhammer 3 showed the names of four new factions for a few seconds – whether this actually happened unintentionally or was intended as a small teaser could of course be discussed.
But much more exciting: These factions have now been confirmed as part of a new DLC, which has even more new content in store. For example a new campaign and four Chaos Lords.
To get you in the mood, here is the new trailer introducing Azazel, the Prince of Doom:
What is known about the DLC?
What is the name of the expansion? The DLC, which the developers classify as a Lord Pack, is titled Champions of Chaos.
What”s inside? The Lord Pack brings the following content to the game:
- 4 new legendary lords (each assigned to a chaos god)
- 4 new unit regiments (also each assigned to a Chaos God).
- New campaign and mechanics
- A lot more new units
You can find a complete listing here (at the official blog) from the developers.
What is the campaign about? The story revolves around the legendary city of Zanbajin, where the Chaos Hordes have been fighting amongst themselves for ages. The Cry of Ursun (which you know from the main campaign) has damaged an ancient seal that holds the restless souls of the fallen. Worthwhile loot for a Chaos Champion!
Which mechanics are new?
- Gifts of Chaos: When you defeat your opponents, you win souls. You can exchange them for buffs and rewards with the Chaos Gods.
- Dark Fortresses and Minions: If you occupy certain regions, you can build a powerful fortress there and thereby unlock minions.
- Warbands: Your Chaos troops can level up – or you can have a Chaos God mark them, which gives them certain buffs.

The DLC will be released on 23 August 2022, coinciding with the giant Immortal Empires campaign. You can read all about it in the article linked above. The price for the Lord Pack has not been announced yet.
Expert review
Finally, more Warhammer 3 is on its way after a long wait for more content. The release of four more Legendary Chaos Lords and associated content is basically overdue in my eyes to get more momentum back into the game until we can finally fully enjoy Immortal Empires.
Finally, we also get more units and normal heroes bearing the mark of a Chaos God. This is actually something I would have liked to see at release. But I don”t want to complain. At least with the announcement they finally appear visibly on the horizon. The new campaign mechanics for the Gifts of Chaos also look very interesting. So we continue to collect souls, but this time in normal battles and improve our faction with them. I like that.
And the fact that we can finally develop and upgrade units through the warband upgrades is a feature I”m already wishing for more factions! It certainly makes the gameplay feel much more organic and gives you an impression of what it must be like to slowly work your way up the deadly path as a chaos barbarian to finally be called champion. I see a lot of potential there.
Last but not least, after years there is finally information about the old Warriors of Chaos DLC, which already caused constant discussions in Warhammer 2. It is finally to be adapted and will receive the new mechanics. That sounds good. I”m definitely very excited and just dying to finally be able to play all of this!
