After last week’s focus on platformers and strategy games this week’s free games in the Epic Games Store will be serious and shooting-heavy. With Tannenberg, a real First World War shooter for up to 64 players awaits you!

Instead of meaningless shooting skirmishes á la Call of Duty you can expect massive mass battles on the Eastern Front between the German Empire, Austria-Hungary and the Russian Empire in Tannenberg. Over 50 weapons, eight large maps that offer players tactical freedom as well as detailed depictions of weapons and uniforms promise an authentic First World War atmosphere not seen in a multiplayer shooter for a long time. While the World Wars have always been a popular motif for shooter games, none has focused as much and as successfully on the Eastern Front as well as the Battle of Tannenberg as this eponymous title by M2H and Blackmill Games

If you can’t find 63 friends for the gigantic mass battles that demand a lot of tactics and manoeuvres, AI players and opponents fill the empty ranks. This works by itself and does not detract from the authentic feeling of the game. Because on the large maps of Tannenberg, much more is important than individual short firefights. Only those who act together and pursue several goals at the same time can win. For all those who want a different shooter experience, Tannenberg, the stand-alone expansion of Verdun, an equally remarkable First World War shooter, is a clear recommendation.

As always, the offer is valid for exactly one week, until 16:59 on 28 July. After that, the next batch of exciting free games awaits us at the Epic Games Store
