Valve has adjusted the matchmaking in CS:GO. Here you can find everything there is to know about the new rank calibration.

On 01 August, Valve released a new patch for their game Counter Strike: Global Offensive. In addition to various map changes, the matchmaking system was also readjusted.

New matchmaking in CS:GO

The changes ensure that every player loses their rank and has to recalibrate it. Unfortunately, Valve has not disclosed how exactly a player’s rank will change. On Reddit, however, you can already read individual reports.

Increasingly, players from the North American server seem to experience a high jump in rank. For example, some have gained up to seven ranks due to the recalibration. Other players, however, lost a considerable amount of ranks and find it difficult to find new motivation to play.

One reason for these differences in calibration is said to be the particular server on which one plays. About 50% of all players on the North American and Oceanic servers are said to be in silver. As a result, it is precisely in these regions that players sometimes experience an extreme increase in rank, which is supposed to even out the distribution of ranks.

Few changes in Europe

On the European server, on the other hand, not so much seems to be happening in the rank. After a match, which I won, I was only one rank lower, which is not a huge difference in CS:GO. On Reddit, too, there are only a few posts from European players that refer to a huge difference in rank after the patch.

Whether Valve has finally distributed the ranks correctly with the update, or total chaos will result, remains to be seen for the time being.
