The FUT mode plays an important role in FIFA 23. What”s in it and what”s new, we summarize
No surprise: Also in FIFA 23 the FUT mode plays a central role. Once again, players can put together their dream team of top players if they are willing to either grind a lot or spend real money on random lootboxes.
FIFA 23 also brings a couple of new additions to Ultimate Team when EA”s final FIFA-licensed football game is released on 30 September 2022. One of them allows you to earn map packs in single player. We summarise which changes are in it.
What”s in FIFA 23 Ultimate Team
EA released a new trailer for FIFA 23 showing the adjustments for Ultimate Team:
-
The innovations clearly summarised:
- New singleplayer mode: With FUT Moments the mode in FIFA 23 gets new content for singleplayer. These are FUT campaigns, seasonal events and challenges inspired by real-life football. Variable match lengths and squad requirements are designed to lower the barrier to entry. Those who complete challenges win stars that can be used to purchase rewards, including players and card packs.
- Simplified Chemistry: The Chemistry system is getting a major overhaul in FIFA 23. Players can now have a positive influence on each other regardless of their role on the field. This means that a direct connection via position is no longer required and negative effects due to bad chemistry are also eliminated. This should bring more flexibility when combining players with the same nationality, team or league.
- Crossplay between certain platforms: Various sub-modes of FUT can be shared between consoles of the same generation. These include the FUT modes Rivals, Online Friendlies, Champions, Play A Friend and Online Draft. Who can play with whom is complicated: In the article about Crossplay in FIFA 23 you can read the details.
- FUT Heroes and Icons: Popular players from past series and retired superstars return as active players in FIFA Ultimate Team. Users can add Zidane and Beckham to their team, for example.
- FIFA World Cup 2022: The Men”s World Cup will be represented with special content in FUT.
- Personalisation: New customisation options, for example, allow players to add all sorts of embellishments to their own stadium, such as a new roof and various visual effects. The pictures show more of it:
Note: FIFA”s Ultimate Team mode offers many microtransactions and unfair Pay2Win mechanics. Therefore, look for your favourite players directly on the FUT transfer market and buy them there for the in-game currency FIFA-Coins instead of spending real money for the randomly filled sets.
The absurdity of FIFA”s Pay2Win was shown in early 2019, for example, in the Team of the Year: even in the most expensive map pack, the probability of finding one of the strong TOTY players was less than one percent. An internal leak on FIFA 21 last year exposed how EA is trying to lure players into FUT mode.
