Contrary to Activision’s statements, will a remastered version of the Modern Warfare 3 campaign be released after all?

Does Activision have more in store than just the release of Modern Warfare II on 28 October? A recent leak now hints at another CoD title that is even said to be already in production and just waiting to be released.

“Just waiting for the right time… “

As the well-known CoD leaker TheGhostOfHope shared via Twitter on September 2, one of his sources has confirmed that there will not only be a remastered version of the Modern Warfare 3 campaign, but that it is even already fully developed.

According to TheGhostOfHope, rumours about the project being cancelled are false and the game is already ready to be released: “It’s complete and just waiting for the right time to be released,” TheGhostOfHope quotes his anonymous source as saying.

However, TheGhostOfHope did not reveal what this remastered version will ultimately look like. It is therefore not known whether the game will simply be re-released after fixing known bugs or whether it will be graphically polished and optimised for current systems.

A port to a more up-to-date engine would be desirable, but not absolutely necessary. Even though Modern Warfare 3 is already a proud eleven years old, it still looks amazingly good today thanks to the IW 5.0 engine used.

Attention, danger of confusion!

A remaster of MW3 would also make sense from a story point of view, after all the story of MW3 ties in directly with that of its predecessor MW2. This had already received a remake of its campaign in 2020.

In the third part of the Modern Warfare series, we fight in the role of Derek “Frost” Westbrook on the hunt for the villain Vladimir Makarov in 16 missions through Europe, Asia and Africa. Of course, old acquaintances from Task Force 141 such as John “Soap” MacTavish and Captain Price are also part of the game.

It should be mentioned here that the story of Modern Warfare 2 (2009) has nothing to do with that of Modern Warfare II (2022). Modern Warfare II (2022) will follow on from the story of Modern Warfare (2019), so they are different storylines.

Both a release date and an official confirmation about the development of Modern Warfare 3 are still missing. Activision has so far denied all rumours about MW3. However, this is hardly surprising considering that Modern Warfare II is already scheduled for release in less than two months.

If TheGhostOfHope’s source is correct, the official announcement of a remastered version of Modern Warfare 3 will probably come after the release of Modern Warfare II on 28 October at the earliest.
