What exactly is The Division Heartlands supposed to be? New details have finally leaked out about the Free2Play shooter – and it”s thanks to a leak in the Store from Ubisoft themselves.

Ubisoft hasn”t really revealed much about The Division: Heartland so far – at least not by choice. Because after the game was announced in May 2021, it was only an insider report in early 2022 that revealed the first details about the planned Free2Play shooter. Now a brand new leak from the Ubisoft Store paints a clearer picture and the Battle Royale is slowly taking shape.

What kind of game The Division: Heartland is going to be

Heartland is to be a battle royale and free2play shooter in which (depending on the game mode) up to 45 players go into battle at the same time. The spin-off to The Division relies on PvP and PvE elements, but mixes them up cheerfully. Players will therefore not only have to deal with AI opponents, but also with human adversaries.

The setting itself is much more manageable compared to The Division 1 and The Division 2 all: Instead of New York and Washington DC, it is a small American town. Players can choose between six different agents and three different classes, each with their own perks and skills. The visual individualisation of one”s own agent will probably play a major role in the Free2Play shooter.

The game modes of Heartland again make use of the setting of The Division. We remember: After the collapse of the US government, which is due to a bio-terrorist attack on the USA, post-apocalyptic conditions prevail and in the role of a so-called agent we ensure something like law and order with plenty of force of arms.
In Heartlands, this means in the game mode Storm Operations for example, that up to 45 players have to fight against the renegade agents called Vultures in the course of a PvEvP match and escape the deadly virus in the process. The game mode Excursion Operations again focuses on PvE battles while collecting loot and completing smaller tasks.

(From big city metropolises to the countryside, Heartland offers a very different setting than the previous two The Divison games.)

By the way, the new info all comes from a leak of the Ubisoft Store, where the product page for The Division: Heartland probably went live too early. In the meantime, the page is offline again, but Twitter user Unknown1Z1 was able to capture the most important details.

In terms of gameplay, The Division: Heartland will ultimately take its cue from genre cousins such as Escape from Tarkov or Hunt: Showdown while at the same time moving in the direction of Battle Royale. More information will be available at the latest at the next Ubisoft Forward on 10 September 2022, where Heartland is expected to play an important role.

What do you think of The Division: Heartland so far: Does the concept of the free2play shooter with influences from Hunt: Showdown and Escape from Tarkov sound exciting to you? Or can you do without another Battle Royale with a clear conscience? Let us know in the comments!
