The beginning of the end

The currently running fifth and final season of Call of Duty: Warzone heralds the beginning of the end for the popular Battle Royale shooter. Unlike 2021, Warzone will not receive a sixth season and will be replaced by its successor Warzone 2 after the end of Season 5.

The fog surrounding Warzone 2 is slowly dissipating as more and more details about the new game come to light.

Even though there is only little official information about Warzone 2 at the moment, a lot of information has already been gathered through various leaks.

When will Warzone 2 be released?

A leaked document from Activision Blizzard dates the release of Warzone 2 to November 16, 2022. Many industry insiders had expected Warzone 2 to be released in early 2023 at the earliest. If this information proves to be true, there would be barely three weeks between the release of Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2.

On which platforms will Warzone 2 be released?

Just like Modern Warfare II, Warzone 2 will be released for all currently popular platforms:

  • PlayStation 4
  • PlayStation 5
  • Xbox one
  • Xbox Series X|S
  • PC (Steam and Battle.net)

Will Warzone 2 support crossplay?

At the moment it can be assumed that Warzone 2 will support crossplay, just like its predecessor. Crossplay between PC, PlayStation and Xbox has proven to be a recipe for success and there is no reason not to continue to offer this.

It is still unclear whether crossplay between next gen and old gen consoles will be possible. However, it would be surprising if this were not the case.

What happens to my skins and weapons from Warzone 1?

Since Warzone 2 will be a new and standalone game, no items, skins, weapon progress etc. will be transferred from Warzone 1 Your inventory with skins and operators will of course remain in Warzone 1, but cannot be taken to Warzone 2. The FIFA players among you know this principle.
You should think twice about how much money you want to invest in Warzone 1.

Will Warzone 2 be so buggy too?

One of the main reasons why there will be a new Warzone at all is the current state of the game. The integration of three different Call of Duty games (Modern Warfare, BOCW and Vanguard), which was never planned, has made Warzone 1 one of the most buggy games of all time. Of course, Warzone 2 will also have errors and bugs, but these should not be nearly as bad as in Warzone 1.

Will Warzone 2 be Free2Play again?

There are currently no indications to the contrary. However, it can be assumed that, as with Warzone 1, there will once again be a shop where we can buy skins, blueprints, etc. for real money.

Which maps will be available in Warzone 2?

Two maps are currently believed to be in development. The well-known leaker Tom Henderson has announced on (exputer.com) that the second map will probably be released sometime after the release. Whether this is related to the mysterious DMZ mode is unclear.

What new features will Warzone 2 offer?

As with Modern Warfare II there will be a wealth of new content in Warzone 2:

  • New Engine (IW 9.0)
  • Stand-alone title independent of classic Call of Duty games
  • Shooting range to test weapons
  • A modified progression system
  • Map editor (not sure yet)
  • DMZ mode (similar to Escape from Tarkov)
  • New weapons, gadgets and perks

It can be assumed that this is just the tip of the iceberg. The closer we get to the release in November, the more and more innovations for Warzone 2 will surely be announced.

As already announced, the multiplayer of Modern Warfare II will support Ricochet from the beginning. It would therefore be surprising if Warzone 2 does not also enjoy the often very funny anti-cheat programme.

What happens to Warzone 1?

So far, the developers have not commented on the future of Warzone 1. However, it can be assumed that the game will continue to be supported for some time after the release of Warzone 2. Whether there will continue to be updates, patches and content at the current frequency, however, must be doubted.

Also unknown is what will happen to players” inventory when the lights go out for Warzone 1”s servers.
