What hardware do you need to play games smoothly in ultra-high 13K resolution? A Youtuber gives us the answer

When unveiling the Geforce RTX 4090, Nvidia presented us with benchmark results that promised 8K gaming capability. According to the tech company, games like Apex Legends and Lost Ark still run at over 60 frames per second across the monitor even at 7680×4320 pixels.

Is this the next step in gaming? Nvidia shows benchmarks in utopian 8K resolution

If you think this is impressive already, you better sit down before reading on.  Because the Youtuber Golden Reviewer has taken it to the extreme and Genshin Impact gamed it in the insane resolution of 13760 x 5760 Pixel . So we”re talking 13K resolution or, to further please the number crunchers among you, 79.2 megapixels.

Will the game run smoothly at all? You can see for yourself:

If you look closely, you”ll even notice that not only were the highest graphics settings chosen, but a render resolution of 1.5x was also set. This means that the internal resolution with which the GPU works is even higher than 13K. Nevertheless, the RTX 4090 manages an average of 30 frames per second. The full system specifications from Golden Reviewer are as follows:

  • Processor: Intel Gen Core i7-10700KF
  • Mainboard: Asus Prime Z490-P motherboard
  • Memory: 64GB Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4-3200 RAM
  • Graphics card: MSI GeForce RTX 4090 GAMING X TRIO 24G GPU
  • Memory: Samsung SSD 970 EVO Plus 2TB

80 megapixel screenshots for virtual photographers

Playing at such high resolutions is still not practical in more demanding titles, even with an RTX 4090, so why push a game to 13K resolution? The reason might be interesting for you: Screenshots with extremely high resolution.

Each frame has a resolution of about 79.2 megapixels and is thus about 86 MB in size. That”s a gigantic amount of detail captured in each screenshot. So the RTX 4090 should be very interesting for virtual photographers who like to go on expeditions through open game worlds with the photo mode.

(The resolution looks like a mistake, but is actually correct.)

Do you also enjoy high resolutions or is a high frame rate more important? Do you even own an RTX 4090 and have you already experimented in this direction? Feel free to post all your thoughts on this topic in high resolution and 13K characters in the comments!
