Geralt gets prettier with age. Because The Witcher 3 is now just under eight years old, CD Projekt Red is giving the modern role-playing classic a brand new Next Gen upgrade for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
This brings with it numerous graphical and technical improvements – such as ray tracing, nicer textures or reworked character models. But how exactly does this look now in direct comparison with the original? Fans wasted no time after the official unveiling last night and partly screenshots, partly videos directly juxtaposed.

Here it is particularly striking how good the lighting conditions, textures and character details look in comparison. Likewise, the wide view and details benefit immensely from the technical overhaul, making the game world far more vivid.

This is what comparison videos show: Of course, the technical and graphical improvements are illustrated a bit better in the first videos that can be found on YouTube since the Next Gen-Reveal.
The people responsible for the channel (Open Surprise) have, for example, grabbed the reveal trailer of the reworked Witcher 3 version and put it in direct comparison with the original. Here, of course, the fancier textures and character models once again stand out:
The video from (Ultimate Gamerz) again shows a cutscene and at least a bit of gameplay from the prologue of The Witcher 3. Here, the lighting and the adjusted camera perspectives are particularly noticeable, giving the action a contemporary look.
The most important info about the Witcher 3 upgrade
The Next Gen version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be released on 14 December 2022 for PC, Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X/S – improvements for the old systems are also to follow later. Those who already own the game will get the upgrade for free. In addition to technical improvements, fans can look forward to a few updates in terms of gameplay and content.
