For the past few days, it’s been one of the biggest topics of conversation in gamer circles: Epic has upgraded its perennial hit Fortnite to the new Unreal Engine 5.1, after the battle royale title had been on version 5.0 for quite some time, but this didn’t have much of an impact on the visuals.

This time, however, the differences are enormous. Unfortunately, it’s tricky to always run the same paths in multiplayer shooters for an optimal comparison – on top of that, in Fortnite you jump out of a plane at the beginning of a round. But we’ve done our best for you and captured the graphics jump to Unreal Engine 5.1 as best we can.

What stands out the most? Of course, the much improved lighting via Lumen, the star feature of Unreal Engine 5. But Nanite also does its job and adds extra details to many objects, especially the grass benefits from the update.

What do you think about the differences and the visuals? Does this make you want to play Fortnite again and get your own impression of the new Unreal Engine 5.1 graphics?
