In Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and also Warzone 2, assault rifles are the most popular type of weapon. These all-rounders offer strong qualities for close-range and long-range combat.

Whether at short or long range: Assault rifles are once again absolute all-rounders in Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2. In practically every situation, the weapons in this category are a good choice.

This is why Assault Rifles (ARs) are among the most popular weapons in every Call of Duty game. This is also true for the latest offshoots. But which ones are the best?

Classics in a new look

An evergreen is certainly the M4, which is one of the most solid picks in every recent CoD game. Range, damage and rate of fire combine for a strong and memorable overall package. For every player, from beginner to pro, the M4 is worthwhile.

Several offshoots of the Kastov rifles can also be greatly enjoyed. Especially in MW2’s multiplayer, the smaller Kastov-74u is one of the favourites. This offers more mobility than other weapons and stops enemies with only a few hits – at least at shorter distances.

The Kastov 762 will be the better choice for many players, however. It is similarly strong as its smaller colleague, especially the damage is decent. The 762 is a bit slower, but still has solid mobility and offers much longer range on top of that. Therefore, this rifle is a popular choice in Warzone 2, where fights are often fought over longer distances.

Arguably the best assault rifle in the two current CoD modes is the TAQ-56, which has an extremely low “time to kill”, good handling and very low dispersion. This makes the TAQ dangerous at all distances and makes it even more convincing as an all-rounder than the other guns in this category already are.
