When the streamer “Der Hobbygeneral” and Roman Raschke dive into the depths of the space submarine in the survival horror co-op game Barotrauma, there are nerve-wracking scenes.
What is Barotrauma? The term barotrauma actually means “pressure injury” and is, among other things, a life-threatening consequence of diving too deep into the sea without protection.
At the same time, it is also the name of a gripping submarine simulator in which the eponymous barotrauma also means the probable end of your characters. In the game, you navigate – protected only by the hull of your submersible – through the lightless and dangerous depths of Jupiter”s moon Europa.
There, humanity has developed colonies in the future, all of which are located beneath the moon”s icy surface in a murky sea. The alien waters are teeming with dangers, including hideous monsters that could have slipped straight out of the eerie worlds of Alien creator H.R. Giger or cosmic horror creator H.P. Lovecraft. “
In the game, you must desperately try to navigate a submarine through the depths of this sea while keeping the boat running. In 2D view, you will wander between the stations of the ship and try to fix the problems that keep occurring in teamwork with other players or bots.
Sometimes an airlock is leaking, then there are problems in the reactor, and just when you think all is well, a horrible alien creature has crept into the ship and is lying in wait for you in the cargo hold. The game writes its own stories and each round becomes a gripping battle for survival in the depths of the Arctic Ocean.
When is the game coming? Barotrauma has been in Early Access on Steam since 2019 and is under constant development. The game is well received by fans and currently has a review score of 93 percent in positive reviews. On 13 March, Barotrauma finally left Early Access and is available as a full version on Steam.
