Gianni Infantino gave an insight into future plans for his own football simulation during his re-election as FIFA president. However, the timing of the release could be later than suspected.
What’s next for the FIFA series? A question that almost every fan of the football simulation has been asking since the announcement of the ending cooperation between publisher EA Sports and the World Football Association. So far without a clear answer. Because despite big announcements it has become quiet.
But now things could be moving again. At the press conference on the occasion of his re-election as head of the association, none other than FIFA President Gianni Infantino has once again spoken about the plans for a video game of his own – and one detail in particular is causing a stir!
Infantino says FIFA will go head-to-head with EA Sports by launching rival video game (EA Sports refused cash demands to keep FIFA’s name)
“The new FIFA game – the FIFA 25, 26, 27 and so on – will always be the best egame for any girl or boy, we will have news on this very soon. “– Martyn Ziegler (@martynziegler) March 16, 2023
FIFA series looks to uncertain future
Although the 52-year-old has repeatedly stressed his desire to compete against EA Sports with the launch of a rival video game, there are still many unanswered questions at the moment. The rumours about 2K as a potential development studio have not yet been confirmed. FIFA, however, is said to be in talks with leading “game manufacturers, media companies and investors” – with a clear goal in mind!
“The new FIFA game – FIFA 25, 26, 27 and so on – will always be the best eGame for any girl or boy, we will announce news about it very soon,” the president of world football’s governing body revealed at the start of his third term. However, the fact that Infantino did not mention the next installment in the list of upcoming games, 24, does not indicate that the plans will be implemented any time soon.
A competing product to EA Sports FC, under which name the new part from EA will be called in the future, will probably have to wait at least until the start of the 2024/25 season. A release parallel to the current season (2023/24) is unlikely and also makes little sense. Thus, for the time being, only Konami’s eFootball and Strikerz Inc.’s UFL would give the flagship a run for its money.
