CoD Warzone 2: Developers respond to Pay2Win outcry around DMZ with mini change

The debate about introduced Pay2Win mechanics in Call of Duty does not tear off. However, a correction via patch seems more like a symbolic gesture.

CoD Warzone 2 is at a dangerous point with DMZ. The creators decided to offer two purchasable packages that bring clear gameplay advantages in the free mode. Extra operators, a stronger vest, lower cool-down time of weapons, to name a few.

But a bundle that had caught the attention of data detectives in advance really got the gamers on the barricades: It is supposed to be called Roze and Thorns and apparently revolves around a skin for Roze, who already attracted negative attention in Warzone 1, because her skin was almost invisible.

The new operator is said to come with a free UAV killstreak that is, a radar that can be used to locate other players. This would allow paying customers to easily hunt for players in a targeted manner.

After an outcry in the community, a patch is already coming, which seems to respond to exactly this criticism, but hardly improves the problem.

Instead of taking the P2W bundle effects out of the game they are trying to “balance” it. Infinity Ward has to be the only studio in the world that introduced P2W mechanics into a non-mobile modern game. This studio has to go and never develop a COD game ever again, these people lost their minds.

A change without weight

It seems like Infinity Ward and Activision want to appease the community: In the (Update) of April 19, the use of the UAV was now only enabled one minute after DMZ round start . However, many see this as an alibi measure, after all, it takes a minute for the UAV to make tactical sense anyway. Critics already accuse the makers of integrating Pay2Win mechanics anyway.

What the community fears

On social media, many discussions revolve around the leaked info. Some are painting horror scenarios in which three Roze players went hunting for other players with three quasi-wallhacks -quite conceivable given the frequency with which the pitch-black Roze skin was seen in CoD Warzone 1.

At the time, the superior Roze skin was adjusted, but only after months. A similar nerf could follow for the yet-to-be-released Roze bundle. At least if it actually appears as predicted via datamining.

Gamers would be wished that Activision moves away from the direction it has taken so far. Pay2Win in games is not considered to be an ingredient for a satisfied community.
