Arcane”s co-op shooter completely fails critics and player ratings. All eyes are now on Starfield

Since its announcement, Starfield has been inundated with expectations, but also doubts and concerns. After all, it”s the first single-player role-playing game from Bethesda Game Studios since 2015 – and a completely new brand with which the developers want to soar to unimagined heights. The release of the vampire shooter Redfall is now causing a lot of talk.

What happened to Redfall?

The co-op shooter has just been released and it”s already shaping up to be a failure: On Steam, the game stands at mostly negative reviews. And the first press reviews don”t paint a favorable picture of Redfall either. The reasons for this are performance problems and bugs, as well as the lack of variety in the gameplay and the weak AI.

What does this have to do with Starfield?

At first glance, very little: although the developers of Redfall and Starfield both belong to the publisher Zenimax, which has since been bought out by Microsoft, they are two different studios. Nevertheless, after the problematic release of Redfall, many fans are now worried about Bethesda”s space role-playing game, which is also being released as an exclusive title for the Xbox.

So, among many others, journalist Jez Corden (in a tweet) suggests that he fears Starfield may also be released too early and an unfinished state:

If Starfield isn”t really ready in September: postpone it. Move it Move it.

Both Starfield and Redfall were supposed to be released as early as 2022, but were then postponed. This was to ensure the highest possible quality, but Redfall probably would have needed more time.

Partially, far more dramatic assessments are also shared in the vastness of the Internet, which declare the release of Starfield to be the fate of Xbox. If the game would also fail, the Xbox would have a big problem, so the tenor. As one of the most important Xbox exclusives in a long time, Bethesda”s role-playing game would now have to deliver, and the pressure would be enormous:

It is questionable, however, whether a billion-dollar corporation like Microsoft would actually take a single game as an opportunity to question an entire line of business.

If there will be any problems at all with Starfield can”t be estimated at the moment anyway. As a (post in the Starfield-Reddit) points out, the developers have better chances here, after all, they are not only venturing into new territory, but are developing a single-player role-playing game typical for them.

How important do you guys think Starfield is to Xbox? Has Redfall also raised fears in you that Bethesda”s role-playing game will also see a very problematic release? Or do you think that the shift to September 2023 will be enough and Starfield will have a smooth launch? Feel free to post your opinions in the comments!
