The gaming platform FACEIT has unveiled a new verification method to better exclude cheaters and smurfs in the future.

FACEIT, the largest provider of matchmaking in CS:GO away from Valve, has unveiled a new verification method that should combat cheaters and smurfs even more effectively. However, the relatively complex registration procedure is met with a divided response in the community.

New verification method

The fight against cheaters and smurfs goes into the next round at Esports event organizer FACEIT after the company announced a new verification method for its players.

Headquartered in London, this company primarily hosts CS:GO, League of Legends, and Dota 2 events and is especially popular with Counter-Strike players because, unlike Valve’s classic matchmaking, it offers additional safeguards to keep cheaters and smurfs out of games.

The new verification method is part of a broad campaign by FACEIT to improve the user experience on the platform. While the “FACEIT ID Verification System” will remain optional for the general public for now, it will be mandatory for tournaments and other competitive events in the future.

Our ID verification system will be free, optional and available to all players starting today. To verify yourself, you can follow a fast, secure and encrypted 4-step multi-factor process that requires a smartphone, facial recognition and original identity documents.

To verify one’s account with the new process, players will have to go through four levels of security, which require a cell phone, facial recognition and an official photo ID, among other things.

After successful registration, users will receive a badge that provides them with certain benefits within the FACIT platform.

You can find a detailed explanation of the new verification method (here).

Shared Echo

On social media, the community is still divided on what to make of the system. Although those responsible for the new method are working with the internationally recognized company (Daon), which is a pioneer in ID verification, many users fear that their sensitive data could fall into the wrong hands.

Despite certain uncertainties, thousands of users have already registered, even causing the registration page to crash. Even though FACEIT promises that all data is stored on Daon’s secured servers, many players still have doubts.

Although the new verification method is currently still optional, it will probably only be a matter of time before all users have to sign up for it. After all, broad protection against cheaters and smurfs is only possible if all players are registered.
