Henry Cavill will soon be replaced by Liam Hemsworth in The Witcher. Nevertheless, Netflix extends the TV series for a fifth season
Netflix has faced a fair amount of headwind over its controversial decision to replace Henry Cavill with Liam Hemsworth in The Witcher series Despite this, the streaming service is sticking with the adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowski”s books – as casting director Sophie Holland reveals.
Seasons 4 and 5 with Hemsworth instead of Cavill
Season 5 of The Witcher is coming: In an interview with (Deadline) Holland confirms that the Netflix series will continue after Season 4. Season 3 will be the last with Henry Cavill, while Liam Hemsworth will already appear in the following season as Geralt of Riva.
Farewell to Henry Cavill: At the end of 2022 it was already announced that Cavill (Man of Steel, Mission: Impossible – Fallout) would say goodbye to Silver Blade and Roach. The decisive factor for this was probably the actor”s creative differences with showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich and the writers of the Netflix series – which, by the way, is anything but well received by many fans.
While Cavill was committed to keeping the story as close to the original as possible, The Witcher went more and more in its own direction after the first season. In Season 3, Henry Cavill can still be seen as Geralt, for the fourth season, Liam Hemsworth (The Tribute to Panem, The Expendables 2) will be in front of the camera as the Witcher.
Season 3 and with it the final one for Henry Cavill will be released on 29 June and 27 July 2023 in two different parts. The fourth, and thus first for Liam Hemsworth, is likely to start in 2024, provided production is not too slowed down by the current Hollywood writers” strike
