Sengoku Dynasty brings the mix of building strategy, life simulation, survival and role-playing to early feudal Japan.

Sharpen your scythe, sharpen your lumberjack axe and wax your bowstrings: The Early Access release of Sengoku Dynasty is getting closer. In the third quarter of this year, the time has come, as the Steam page announces: The spiritual successor to Medieval Dynasty takes you to late medieval Japan and shows new scenes from its gameplay in time for Summer Game Fest 2023.

Familiar and yet fresh

Sengoku Dynasty stays true to the series’ fledgling roots with its gameplay as a unique blend of building strategy, life simulation, survival and role-playing. However, it emphasises some elements differently, for example, combat is far more prominent in the game than in its European relative.

The title uses the Unreal Engine 5 to bring feudal Japan to life and shows a world once ravaged by famine and wars, where you build a village community as well as create a dynasty.

Sengoku Dynasty offers a new perspective on the Sengoku era. This is not about samurais and war, but about the everyday struggle for existence as well as the resilience of ordinary people

In a series of videos dubbed Insider, the Polish developers shed light on the development and background of their new game, which is taking shape in parallel to further work on Medieval Dynasty. Some of the new features will also benefit both series spin-offs at the same time, for example the multiplayer. This will be added to Medieval and will be included in Sengoku directly at the start of Early Access.

Japan’s world as the star of the title

The different biomes you get to explore are meant to reflect the diversity of Japan’s natural beauty. They range from bamboo forests, snowy mountain peaks and idyllic cherry groves to vast plains or picturesque mist-shrouded hot springs.

According to the developers, the open world of Sengoku Dynasty is huge, beautiful and full of unique characters that you get to interact with. Some of them are friendly, while others try to cause trouble or threaten your existence.

Have you booked the virtual time machine yet? Are you looking forward to Sengoku Dynasty or are you not attracted by the setting? Where do you want to establish your first settlement? Rather high up on a plain in the middle of the mountains or in a sleepy bamboo forest, or somewhere else entirely? And do you perhaps even have an idea for a setting that would look good in the Dynasty series? Feel free to write your thoughts and ideas in the comments!
