We’re not jealous, but some stories about in-game items from Counter-Strike make us … thoughtful.

If you get up every morning thinking, “Oh, now I’ll have half a million dollars and I won’t have to work anymore,” then the following news should make you grind your teeth: A lucky guy kissed by Fortuna has apparently opened his Steam account again after almost ten years of inactivity and was completely stunned to discover that he has in-game items worth half a million dollars.

The fact that Counter-Strike: Global Offensive items are sold for sometimes dizzying prices has become a well-known fact by now, but in this case, many coincidences really do come together: The lucky user now owns extremely rare in-game items, including Katowice stickers from 2014, some of which are worth more than 60,000 bucks – and he or she had no idea of their own quasi-fortune.

Back then, the stickers were logically worth only a fraction of today’s price, but the long period of inactivity has allowed the inventory to mature like a damn good wine. The streamer and trader TDM_Heyzeus acted as a middleman to bring the trade across the stage and reports about it via Twitter:

Literally translated:

Just closed a huge deal as a broker for an inventory full of 2014 Kato holos. The inventory was completely unknown to the owner – he or she had no idea how much the stickers were worth. Luckily, the story turned out well and the person just made a life-changing amount of money.

At the same time, of course, there is speculation under the posting as to how many more hidden treasures like this are out there in the shallows of the internet. After all, many teenagers stop gambling at some point and let their Steam accounts mould inactively. Reason enough, then, to invite all the ex-CS players in your circle of acquaintances to join you for an iced tea.

Of course we don’t begrudge the lucky guy the 446,894 dollars he earned, but we can be a little envious. With half a million euros, we could almost buy a 12-square-metre flat in Munich. Hach.
